Salma Hayek is in early talks to join Marvel’s The Eternals, which Chloe Zhao is directing for a shoot later this year.
Richard Madden and Kumail Nanjiani are also on board the superhero adventure project, which is based on the 1976 comic book series created by Jack Kirby. Angelina Jolie remains in talks to also star with no deal set.
“Game of Thrones” and “Bodyguard” star Richard Madden is in talks to join Marvel’s “The Eternals.”
Madden will play Ikaris, a member of the human offshoot race known as the Eternals.
South Korean actor Ma Dong-seok, also known as Don Lee, will make his American film debut in Marvel Studios’ “The Eternals,” which focuses on a group of ancient human beings, an individual with knowledge of the project exclusively told TheWrap.
Kumail Nanjiani, the comedian and Oscar-nominee is in negotiations to star alongside Angelina Jolie in The Eternals, one of two features that Marvel is prepping to shoot this year.
Angelina Jolie is in talks to star in Marvel Studios' The Eternals. She has chosen the Marvel project based on the Jack Kirby-created title about a superhero team adventure being directed by Chloe Zhao.
It is unclear who Jolie will play. Marvel had no comment.
Chloe Zhao has nabbed the gig to direct Marvel’s next potential franchise, the Jack Kirby-created title The Eternals.
The project features the super-powered and near-immortal beings known as Eternals and a more monstrous off-shoot known as the Deviants that were created by cosmic beings known as Celestials.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that one aspect to the story involves the love story between Ikaris, a man fueled by cosmic energy, and Sersi, who relishes moving amongst humans.
Marvel Studios has pinpointed its next potential franchise, the Jack Kirby-created title The Eternals, and is moving ahead with development.
The studio behind Avengers: Infinity War has hired writers Matthew and Ryan Firpo, whose spec script Ruin shot to the top of the 2017 Black List, to pen the script for the superhero team adventure.
In comics lore, the saga of the Eternals began millions of years ago when the cosmic beings known as the Celestials genetically experimented on humans, creating the super-powered and near-immortal beings and a more monstrous off-shoot known as the Deviants. The two races moved behind the scenes throughout human history while also engaging in Game of Thrones-style cosmic powerplays.
Among the characters are Ikaris, fueled by cosmic energy; Sersi, who relishes moving amongst humans; and Thena, often mistaken for the Greek goddess Athena.
