Killing Eve - God, I'm Tired - Advanced Preview
24 May 2018
Killing Eve Reviews SJKilling Eve wraps its debut season this Sunday. It’s one that has been met by completely justified critical acclaim with Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer wowing us on a weekly basis, and the finale is no different.
After Konstantin hit her with a log and made an escape last week, Villanelle is an extremely annoyed assassin. She’s very much on the fly for the majority of the episode, dragging around an unwilling accomplice, scrambling money together, knows exactly what she has to do next, and so do the others.
Having discovered Carolyn secretly visited Villanelle at the end of last weeks episode, Eve and Kenny waste no time in confronting her. They’re not the only ones seeking Carolyn out though, which results in a rather amusing scene for us, but not so much for Kenny. Eve very much wants answers over Carolyn’s part in all of this, but more pressing matters take priority.
An unlikely team up is formed as Eve knows where Villanelle is going to go, which leaves Carolyn rather stunned. Unfortunately for them whilst she may know where Villanelle is going, she doesn’t beat her there, which is rather fortunate for us as it makes for some really great scenes. There’s some great back and forth between numerous characters, with Eve still very much on the hunt for answers, no-one willing to provide and Villanelle’s as always smart tongue.
Whilst the stakes are extremely high, the shows humour is still on fine form. There’s a rather amusing scene as Eve’s frustrations get the better of her and she demands answers in the most inappropriate of situation, and of course Villanelle being her usual playful self.
The season long game of cat and mouse does of course comes to a head. Villanelle is obviously involved in quite a few confrontations. One of them delivers answers that have been speculated on for quite a few weeks now. Another is devilishly funny in the build up before the crap well and truly hits the fan, and another one will be talked about for months to come.
The episode may be plot heavy since there’s a lot to get through, but there are still a lot of great character moments. Whilst the focus may be on more important matters, Eve does face the consequences of going behind Carolyn’s back. I doubt anyone will be surprised by the result of that, and just when we think all the drama is over, Eve gets a call which prompts her to go solo.
Without giving anything away, the finale absolutely slays. I’ve watched it quite a few times now, trying to piece together coherent thoughts, and I’m still having trouble doing that. It’s one of those finales that will well and truly leave your jaw on the floor, especially with one particular event, and the wait for season 2 will be spent trying (and failing) to scoop it up.
It's easy to see why Killing Eve was renewed before the show even premiered, as there is obviously a clear plan of action here. Whilst some questions are answered, we’re left with a hundred more.
You can watch the finale this Sunday at 8pm on BBC America.
