Whitford will play Calvin Cooper, an American movie star living in England working in theatre. The show is a co-production between Pop TV and British multichannel broadcaster UKTV.
“We’re so excited to welcome such an enormous talent like Bradley into the Flack family, and without giving too much away, can’t wait to see how his fervent character causes a lot of complications for Anna to deal with in a highly restricted, regulated locale,” said Justin Rosenblatt, EVP Original Programming, Pop.

On the Netflix series, Iglesias plays a good-natured public high school teacher who works at his alma mater. He takes on teaching gifted but misfit kids to not only save them from being “counseled out” by a bully bureaucrat Assistant Principal, but also to help them unlock their full potential.

07:55 - MOVIES: Eternals - Marvel's Kevin Feige Confirms Early Development of Comic Book Adaptation In Phase 4

Marvel Studios is developing a movie based on the “Eternals” comic book series about an evolutionary offshoot of humanity, president Kevin Feige told TheWrap.

“‘Eternals’ is one of many many many things that we are actively beginning to have creative discussions about to see if we believe in them enough to put them on a slate,” Feige said Sunday while promoting this week’s “Avengers: Infinity War.”

“We have started working on what are the films post-phase 3,” he said, referencing the forthcoming fourth part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s slate of movies after the wind-down of franchises based on the original Avengers.

So what are the “Eternals?” Created by comic legend Jack Kirby in 1976, the “Eternals” are a race of ancient human beings created a million years ago by the cosmic entities known as the Celestials.

03:15 - MOVIES: Tommyknockers - Universal Wins Bidding War to Adapt Stephen King Novel

EXCLUSIVE: Universal has stepped up to the plate to acquire Tommyknockers, a feature film package centered on Stephen King’s 1987 sci-fi horror novel. This is the project that has James Wan producing under his Atomic Monster banner with an eye to direct. Also producing is Roy Lee, Larry Sanitsky, the latter who executive produced the hit 1993 ABC miniseries based on King’s book, Michael Clear and Jon Berg.

The deal was struck in a bidding battle between Uni, Netflix and Sony, we hear, with Universal pulling ahead in the end. The package had been making the rounds and follows the current King IP resurgence that includes New Line/Warner Bros’ runaway hit It, which has spawned a sequel now in the works.

Tommyknockers centered on the residents of Maine town who come under the influence of a strange object discovered in the woods. It turns out to be part of an alien spacecraft, which emits a gas that infects those who are exposed to it, eventually leading to chaos that only one man may be able to stop. Jimmy Smits and Marge Helgenberger starred in the ABC mini.

09:25 - Smallville's Allison Mack Arrested In Sex Trafficking Scheme

Thanks to Jenn for the heads up.

Allison Mack, who played Chloe Sullivan on the Superman TV series Smallville, was arrested Friday in New York on charges of sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy and forced labor conspiracy. She was indicted along with Keith Raniere, a leader of a self-help program and purported pyramid scheme being investigated for operating a shadow society of female “slaves.”

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York announced the indictment today; Mack is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge Cheryl L. Pollak. Raniere was previously arrested on a complaint and ordered detained, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. He will be arraigned at a later date.

“As alleged in the indictment, Allison Mack recruited women to join what was purported to be a female mentorship group that was, in fact, created and led by Keith Raniere,” United States Attorney Richard P. Donoghue said today. “The victims were then exploited, both sexually and for their labor, to the defendants’ benefit. This Office and our law enforcement partners are committed to prosecuting predators who victimize others through sex trafficking and forced labor.”

09:10 - 8 Fights – The Life of Muhammad Ali - Limited Event Series from Morgan Freeman in Development at CBS All Access

In a competitive situation, CBS All Access, CBS’ SVOD and live streaming service, has landed for development 8 Fights – The Life of Muhammad Ali, a limited event series about the boxing great. The project hails from Morgan Freeman and Lori McCreary’s Revelations Entertainment and CBS TV Studios where it had been in development as part of the studio’s major ramp-up of premium cable/streaming content.

Written by Dan Kay based on Jonathan Eig’s recently published biography Ali: a Life, the series will chronicle eight distinct moments in the life of Ali, with each episode framed by one fight from his boxing career. The focus will be on the internal fight — the drama outside the ring – which will explore the struggle going on in the heart and mind of one of the most consequential and controversial figures of the 20th century.

The pitch for the project drew interest from multiple outlets, with sibling CBS All Access stepping up to land it. So far, the vast majority of CBS All Access’ pickups have been straight-to-series, largely based on a finished script. Because 8 Fights was a pitch, it has a script-to-series commitment, with a straight-to-series order contingent on the script.

07:15 - First Wives Club - Reboot Ordered to Series by Paramount Network

Thanks to Jenny for the heads up.

Paramount Network has picked up 10 half-hour episodes of a new comedy series, “First Wives Club,” from Paramount Television. Tracy Oliver, who penned the blockbuster hit film “Girls Trip,” is attached to write and serve as Executive Producer.

The half-hour series is based on the popular 1996 film from Paramount Pictures, which featured Diane Keaton, Bette Midler and Goldie Hawn.

“Tracy Oliver is a brilliant writer and the perfect visionary to bring this unforgettable story from the big screen to the small screen in a fresh and contemporary way,” said Keith Cox, President, Development and Production, Paramount Network, TV Land and CMT.

“‘Girls Trip’ was one of the funniest comedies in recent memory and we know Tracy will breathe new life, and some serious laughs, into these beloved ‘First Wives Club’ characters,” said Amy Powell, President of Paramount TV.

The series, like the film, will be based in New York City. It will follow a group of women who band together after their marriages fall apart, and who find strength in their sisterhood- and of course a little revenge.

Production will begin in New York City this summer and the series will debut on Paramount Network in 2019.

A cast announcement will be made in the coming weeks.

07:00 - Mindhunter - Season 2 - Directors Revealed

Thanks to Kayell for the heads up.

Heading to Southern Georgia, “Mindhunter” season two will focus on the infamous Atlanta child murders of the late 1970s and early 80s, which featured the relatively uncommon case of an African-American serial killer —in real life, Wayne Williams, who was tried, convicted, and sentenced to life imprisonment for killing two adult men, but never convicted of the deaths of twenty three murders of young children (though it’s unclear how close to the real events the show will hew). Stars Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, and Anna Torv will all return.

Meanwhile, Fincher has found his directors for the follow-up season and sources tell us there are only three filmmakers scheduled this time; Fincher himself directing the premiere and finale episodes like he did in season one, Andrew Dominik (“The Assassination of Jesse James,” “Killing Me Softly”) will helm another two, and filmmaker Carl Franklin (“Devil In A Blue Dress,” “One False Move”), who’s become something of a journeyman director on TV in recent years (“House Of Cards,” ” The Leftovers,” “13 Reasons Why,” “Vinyl” and more), will direct the rest and bulk of the show.

Last I heard, there were only eight episodes this season; the inaugural one, which featured four filmmakers — Asif Kapadia, Tobias Lindholm, Andrew Douglas and Fincher — had ten.
