Unapologetic with Aisha Tyler - Dietland Aftershow Announced by AMC

AMC GREENLIGHTS "DIETLAND" COMPANION TALK SHOW, "UNAPOLOGETIC WITH AISHA TYLER"

Series Airs Mondays Beginning June 4, Immediately Following Episodes of New Original Series "Dietland"

NEW YORK, NY - May 7, 2018 -- AMC announced today that it has greenlit a "Dietland" companion talk show, "Unapologetic with Aisha Tyler." Produced for AMC by Embassy Row ("Talking Dead," "Beyond Stranger Things," "Watch What Happens Live"), the unscripted series hosted by Tyler ("Criminal Minds," "Archer") will air live on Mondays beginning June 4, immediately following episodes of AMC's new original series "Dietland." The first episode of "Unapologetic with Aisha Tyler" will air on Monday, June 4 at 11:00 pm after two back-to-back episodes of "Dietland," and will then move to its regular weekly timeslot of 10:00 pm ET the following week. Unlike a conventional after show confined to the companion series itself, "Unapologetic" will feature Tyler leading a topical discussion around the broader, female-centric issues and themes that "Dietland" explores. Tyler will be talking with celebrity fans, series actors and producers, as well as relevant journalists, writers, comedians and other tastemakers. Embassy Row's Michael Davies and Amanda McPhillips serve as executive producers.

"'Dietland' is an incredibly well-timed series that focuses on a multitude of critical issues facing women today. We know 'Dietland' will be a launchpad for conversation and this companion series makes room for these important discussions to happen," said David Madden, president of original programming for AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios. "We couldn't be happier to have the extraordinarily smart and talented Aisha Tyler leading the conversation for this series, which will be topical, issue-oriented, unfiltered and funny, just like its scripted sibling."

"The issues of identity, sexuality, body image and self-actualization raised in 'Dietland' are more urgent than ever. Our dynamic, rapidly evolving cultural climate demands a frank, no-holds-barred exchange about the ideas and questions raised by the book and series, and the real-world events and issues women face every day. I'm looking forward to expanding the #metoo conversation in funny, honest and engaging ways. It's about time," said Tyler.

Based on Sarai Walker's 2015 best-selling, critically acclaimed novel of the same name, "Dietland" is a wickedly funny and extraordinarily timed satire about Plum Kettle, a ghost-writer for the editor of one of New York's hottest fashion magazines. Struggling with self-image and fed up with how she's treated by her boss and society, Plum sets out on a wildly complicated road to self-awakening. At the same time, everyone is buzzing over news reports about men, accused of sexual abuse and assault, who are disappearing and meeting untimely, violent deaths. Plum finds herself in the middle of two warring factions - one sisterhood who may be responsible for the attacks on male harassers, and the other which preaches female empowerment. She straddles these two groups, trying to make sense of the changing world and her part in it.

The series stars Joy Nash ("The Mindy Project," "Twin Peaks") as Plum Kettle, and Golden Globe(R) and Emmy(R) Award-winner Julianna Margulies ("The Good Wife," "ER") as Kitty Montgomery. Marti Noxon ("Mad Men," "UnREAL,") serves as executive producer, writer, showrunner and directs multiple episodes on the series.

MOVIES: Peter Rabbit 2 - Sequel Announced; Coming 2020

Peter Rabbit will be up to old tricks again, and hopefully bring more lettuce, for Sony Pictures.

Off the surprise success of the CG/live-action hybrid, Sony has announced its intent to make a sequel, dating the next installment for Feb. 7, 2020. The movie will open March 27, 2020 in the United Kingdom. Will Gluck, who directed the first movie, will return to write and direct the sequel.

The movie, which saw James Corden voice the popular character from the Beatrix Potter books and also starred Domhnall Gleeson, proved to be an under-the-radar hit when it was released Feb. 8.

The movie grossed $115 million in the U.S. and is, per Sony, the studio’s biggest ever non-James Bond film in the UK, with a $55.7 million cume in that country, where it held the number one spot for four weeks in a row.  It grossed $325 million worldwide.

The movie went after the same audience as Paddington 2, another CG/live-action movie that was based on an iconic British literary property. Paddington 2 has a 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes while Rabbit a 62 percent, but, as Sony boasted in its announcement, Rabbit surpassed the lifetime goal of both Paddington movies. (Despite universal acclaim, Paddington 2 made only $40 million in the US, and $225 million worldwide.)

NCIS - Season 16 - David McCallum Returning

Both are set to come back next season; Harmon’s new contract sealed NCIS‘ Season 16 renewal last month. With the exception of Perrette, all NCIS cast members are expected to continue.

Are You Sleeping - Thriller Drama Starring Octavia Spencer Ordered to Series by Apple

Thanks to Ron for the heads up.

Apple has given a 10-episode series order to Are You Sleeping, a thriller drama starring Oscar winner Octavia Spencer (The Help, Hidden Figures), which hails from Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and the scripted drama venture of Peter Chernin’s Chernin Entertainment and Endeavor Content.

Are You Sleeping, created and written by Nichelle Tramble Spellman (The Good Wife, Justified) based on true-crime novel by Kathleen Barber, had originally been put in development at Apple’s video programming unit. It is the first project bought by Apple to be developed for straight-to-series consideration to get a green light.

Are You Sleeping provides a unique glimpse into America’s obsession with true-crime podcasts and challenges its viewers to consider the consequences when the pursuit of justice is placed on a public stage. Sarah Koenig, host, creator and producer of the true-crime podcast phenomenon Serial, whose breakout success helped fuel that obsession, will consult on the series.

MOVIES: Happy Death Day 2 - Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard Returning; Suraj Sharma & Sarah Yarkin Join Sequel

EXCLUSIVE: While it’s been inevitable that Blumhouse would go forward with Happy Death Day 2 after the first installment raked in close to $123M worldwide, casting is in place for a production start on May 10.

Jessica Rothe is returning for the Christopher Landon-directed sequel as well as Israel Broussard. Fans could have guessed this, and there’s a lot out there, but this is certain now. In the first movie, Rothe’s sorority girl Tree Gelbman relives the day of her murder in Groundhog Day style. She ultimately tries to beat the time loop by discovering who her killer’s identity is. Broussard plays Carter, the cute guy Tree keeps waking up alongside. Landon has said in reports that the sequel will answer questions to the first installment’s endless time loop while Rothe has mentioned that part 2 will pick up where the first film left off in a Back to the Future-like style.

We also hear that Life of Pi and Homeland actor Suraj Sharma is also joining to play Samar Ghosh, a science enthusiast and geek who enjoys coding in his spare time.

Sarah Yarkin, whose previous credits include American Horror Story, The Middle and the Gunpowder & Sky feature Eat, Brains Love is playing Dre Morgan, a science geek and tom-boy with a sleepy feline gaze who is Samar’s partner-in-crime.

Man of the House - Jimmy Kimmel Joins ABC Comedy Pilot as Narrator

Promising news for one of ABC's comedy pilots: As the broadcast network starts mulling pickups for the 2018-19 season, Jimmy Kimmel is joining Man of the House.

The Jimmy Kimmel Live host and go-to ABC emcee is lending his voice to the Frank Pines and Vijal Patel project, serving as the off-camera narrator — a grown version of the character Bradley, played onscreen by Jake Short. "I’ve often thought of myself as an 'Older Bradley,'" said Kimmel, "so that works out well."

Man of the House stars Alyson Hannigan and Leslie Bibb as dissimilar divorced sisters who move in together to raise their children. The pilot, a multi-/single-camera hybrid, is inspired by Pines' real life being raised by his mother and aunt. Kimmel and Short's Bradley is the lone male of the cast who juggles his life at home with the two matriarchs, a sister (Reece Caddell) and a cousin (Jenna Ortega) and the masculine word of football at school.

Roseanne star John Goodman and Chewing Gum creator Michaela Coel are among the A-list names to join Netflix and BBC drama Black Earth Rising.

The story, which is set across the UK, Europe, Africa and the U.S., centers on Kate Ashby, played by Coel, who was rescued as a young child during the Rwandan genocide and adopted by Eve Ashby, played by Walter, a world class British prosecutor in international criminal law. Kate was raised in Britain and, now in her late twenties, she works as a legal investigator in the law chambers of Michael Ennis, played by Goodman. Gary Dauberman, the writer behind the Annabelle movies, will make his directorial debut with an untitled Annabelle project, the newest installment of New Line’s horror franchise based on a devil doll from The Conjuring cinematic universe.

The project, which Dauberman is also writing, will once again be produced by James Wan’s Atomic Monster and the Peter Safran Co., the banners that produce what has become a billion-dollar franchise and among the most profitable movies ever made.

Details are being kept secret but the story will once again focus on the porcelain doll that is possessed by a demonic force.

The new Annabelle installment is on the fast track for New Line, which has set the film’s release for July 3, 2019.

08:20 - Mrs. Fletcher - Casey Wilson, Owen Teague, Jackson White & Jen Richards Join HBO Comedy Pilot

Jackson White (The Middle), Marry Me and Happy Endings alumna Casey Wilson, Owen Teague (Bloodline) and Jen Richards (I Am Cait) are set as series regulars opposite Kathryn Hahn in Mrs. Fletcher, HBO’s comedy pilot based on The Leftovers author Tom Perrotta’s bestselling novel.

Written by Perrotta and to be directed by Nicole Holofcener, Mrs. Fletcher is about an empty-nest mom, Eve Fletcher (Hahn), and her college-student son, Brendan Fletcher (White), who embrace their newfound freedom with mixed results.

White’s Brendan is a popular — though sometimes clueless — jock and aspiring frat boy who finds college a little more complicated than he expected.

Wilson is Jane Rosen, a happily married mother of academically gifted twins. She is Eve’s close friend, a reliable source of emotional support and unsolicited advice.

Teague portrays Julian Spitzer, a high school classmate of Brendan’s, a smart but underachieving skater who’s stuck in his hometown after graduation, trying to figure out what happens next.

Richards, a transgender activist, writer, actress and producer, plays Margo Fairchild, a trans woman who teaches a community college course on Gender and Society. Having recently transitioned, Margo is still in the process of adjusting to her new identity.

Chalke will play Merrill Morgan, a Park Avenue WASP personified. She’s a divorced mother of a teenage boy named Prescott, and she is Alpha to everyone she meets — beautiful, direct, confident; Gwyneth Paltrow minus the West Coast mellowness. She and Nick Ames (Faxon) briefly dated in college, and in the first episode of the season they reconnect at a party. The friends all agree that she and Nick were born and raised to be together. How will Nick handle the pressure of dating an appropriate woman?

08:20 - Family Crimes - Drama from David Ayer Passed on by Starz

Starz has opted not to proceed with Family Crimes, its drama series project from Suicide Squad writer-director David Ayer, and Jerry Bruckheimer Television.

The pay cable network landed Ayer’s hot spec script in a competitive situation last November with a production commitment. While the project was not formally ordered to series, that was reportedly the intention at Starz, which is in the straight-to-series business. I hear Family Crimes already had a writers room up and running, with writers churning out scripts, and a casting director had been hired and working when Starz on Monday notified the producers of its decision not to move forward with the series, citing creative reasons. There had been some production planning done for the series but no formal production dates had been set yet. (Family Crimes had been eyeing a summer 2018 shoot.)

09:00 - Trollhunters - Season 3 - Tatiana Maslany, Diego Luna & Emile Hirsch Join Final Season; Tatiana Maslany & Diego Luna to Star in Dreamworks Spinoff, 3 Below on Netflix

Former Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany, Diego Luna (Narcos) and Emile Hirsch (The Chinese Widow) have joined the third and final season of Netflix’s Emmy-winning original series DreamWorks Trollhunters, from Oscar-winner Guillermo del Toro.

Maslany and Luna will voice Aja and Krel, two mysterious new students who unknowingly come to the aid of the Trollhunters team in the fight against Morgana. The duo will also reprise their roles and serve as the leads of the next installment in the Tales of Arcadia trilogy, DreamWorks 3 Below, set to debut on Netflix later this year.

Hirsch takes on the role of Jim Lake, Jr., originally voiced by the late Anton Yelchin. Yelchin completed his work on the first two seasons and a considerable portion of season three before his unexpected passing in 2016. Del Toro and his creative team found a unique way to incorporate a voice transition organic to the story and create a path for Hirsch, a dear friend of Yelchin’s ,to carry on his legacy and role. Yelchin’s performance has been left intact where possible and some portions have been merged with Hirsch’s performance to complete season three, according to Netflix and DreamWorks.

09:00 - MOVIES: Chicken Run - Sequel in Development

Almost 20 years after Chicken Run became the most successful stop-motion animated film of all time (a record it still holds to this day), The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Aardman Animations is officially working on a sequel.

Details of the film are scarce at the moment, with the project not yet ready to hit markets. But THR understands that the U.K. animation powerhouse is developing the film alongside StudioCanal, with which it has partnered on its most recent titles, and Pathe, which co-financed the original with DreamWorks Animation and distributed it in Europe.

09:00 - MOVIES: Cloverfield - 4 Installment in Development

Contrary to rumors, J.J. Abrams said “Overlord” will not be the fourth film in the “Cloverfield” series. Instead, the horror film about World War II soldiers who find out the Nazis are using supernatural forces and engaging in gruesome experiments, will be Bad Robot’s first R-rated movie.

“It’s bat shit crazy,” Abrams said in taped remarks for Paramount Pictures’ CinemaCon presentation on Wednesday.

But fans of the popular horror series need not fear. Abrams said that “we’re actually developing a true, dedicated Cloverfield sequel” and unlike the most recent film in the series, which was sold to Netflix, this one will screen in theaters.
