Scene Of The Week - March 11, 2018 + POLL

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great, memorable scenes that we've seen in past seven days on TV.

AGENTS OF SHIELD, "The Real Deal", March 9, 2018, Actors: Clark Gregg, J. August Richards, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge and more, The Scenes: Coulson faces his greatest fear & Fitz and Simmons get married
Justyna:
This episode was pretty much perfect. Each time I thought I've already seen the best scene of the hour, there was another one to take my breath away. I'm so glad to be one of the fans who follow and support this show from its very beginning and to say that this 100th episode felt exactly right for this incredible story. First, let me give a shout-out to the four scenes that I would all include in the article if possible. The moment when both the viewers and the team learn not only that Coulson is dying but also why. After all this time, it's hard to believe he's dying from the very same wound and Loki is still killing him years later. Second, there's Daisy's reaction and breakdown when it hits her just how much Coulson means to her and how lost she feels without him. Then of course, there's the wedding. The romantic plots are rarely one of my favorite aspects of the show but these two I've loved since the start, so I'm glad to see their moment of joy and hope, without any interruptions or new disasters. Finally, there's my choice for SOTW - Coulson facing his greatest fear. As much as I love all the other characters, I can't imagine SHIELD without Coulson and I was glad to see this episode with main focus on his character. The entire conversation is so brilliantly done, with vision of Mike who tries to convince Phil that none of the events of the show ever happened and he makes this conclusion sound more possible than I expected. When the doubt starts and all the flashbacks bring memories of the hundred episodes of the show, it makes for a truly emotional and powerful scene. Clark Gregg is brilliant as always and I loved the return of J. August Richards in the hour. Coulson's the heart and soul of SHIELD and here we see what his team really means to him. "It matters who you are" is also one of my favorites quotes from the show and it worked perfectly in the moment as well. And the entire scene ends with such an inspiring view, when real Mike, now a true hero, shows up with SHIELD for Coulson when he needs help the most. The fight that follows is also wonderfully done. And finally, one important thing still to be added. The music has always been such a significant part of the show. It's one of the best TV soundtracks I've heard, so the return of Bear McCreary's "Crossing Into Darkness" in this scene made it feel complete. Kudos to the entire cast & crew of the show, not only for this moment or the episode, but for all their marvelous work on the series. May the story never end.
Beth: Fitz and Simmons get married and Deke is revealed to be a FitzSimmons. I had braced myself for heartbreak and they proved me wrong. Who would have thought that two bickering scientists would end up having the wedding in the 100th ep?!?! I loved the ceremony, it was so AOS and most importantly so Jemma and Leo. He was nervous and she was sweet and they said just the right thing to each other. Oh and DEKE!! I knew it, he is a mix of both and it confirms these two have a science baby in their future.
Joey: The wedding. I've been rooting for them since day one, and I'm both happy and sad that it happened 100 episodes into the show. It's a monumental moment, but I also wanted it sooner, I'm greedy. The twist with Deke being their grandson put it over the edge, though. A+ twist there, AOS.
Jamie: Fake Mike tries to convince Coulson it's all been a dream. The way this scene was edited was just amazing. With all the flashbacks to the past 5 years.

ARROW, "Doppelganger", March 8, 2018, Actors: Katie Cassidy, Stephen Amell and more
The Scene: Laurel talks to the press
Marko:
Katie Cassidy really loves this dual game and delivers great performances week after week.

ASH VS EVIL DEAD, "Booth Three", March 4, 2018, Actors: Bruce Campbell and more
The Scene: The ending fight scene
Milo:
The ending fight scene with Ash set to a-Ha's Take on Me. This was a brilliantly done over-the-top fight scene set to a cheesy 80's pop song that feels right at home with the tone of the show. Brutal, entertaining and action packed, this scene really did a great job at standing out.

BASKETS, "Women's Conference", March 6, 2018, Actors: Martha Kelly, Louie Anderson and more, The Scene: Martha wins a lap dance at a strip club
Claire:
Martha has been forced into a girl’s weekend in Vegas with Christine and wins a lap dance at a strip club. She is less than thrilled. She keeps backing away from the buff ‘fireman’ and falls off the stage onto a table; injured again. She doesn’t want to be unfaithful to her shepherd boyfriend back in Bakersfield. Martha Kelly’s low key, sad sack, smart and caring Martha is one of my favorite characters on television.

HERE AND NOW, "Hide and Seek", March 4, 2018, Actors: Holly Hunter, Tim Robbins and more, The Scene: The family gathers in a park for Hailey’s birthday party
Claire:
Again no words are spoken. The family has gathered in a park for Hailey’s birthday party. To beautiful background music, the family plays games, blows bubbles and it looks glorious. The sun is shining and this family loves each other. It feels as if something bad is coming and this could be their last moment like this.

HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, "The Day Before He Died", March 8, 2018, Actors: Karla Souza, Lolita Davidovich, The Scene: Laurel confronts her mother
Luana:
I don't think I need to explain myself here. Karla Souza killed it! Her pain, her rage, it was a powerhouse performance, through and through.

JESSICA JONES, "AKA Facetime", March 8, 2018, Actors: Krysten Ritter and more, The Scene: The identity of the mystery woman is revealed
Joey:
The identity of the mystery woman with powers is revealed to Jessica. This was so shocking, and it really pushed the rest of the season forward. Great way to end an episode!

LIFE SENTENCE, "Pilot", March 7, 2018, Actors: Lucy Hale, Elliot Knight, Anna Enger and more, The Scenes: Dr. Chang's thank-you party/dinner & Stella and Wes reunite in the hospital
Joey:
Dr. Chang's thank-you party/dinner. This scene was just so great. The entire ensemble is together, and so many things come to a head. From her dad breaking down, her sister revealing she turned down college, and her brother getting punched in the face, there was a little bit of everything all packed into one scene.
Marko: Stella and Wes reunite in the hospital. I'm a true sucker for these big romantic moments and my heart started pounding majorly the moment he appeared behind her. Their chemistry is off the chart and can't wait to see more.

LUCIFER, "Infernal Guinea Pig", March 5, 2018, Actors: Tricia Helfer, Rachael Harris, The Scene: Charlotte reveals her memory of hell
Justyna:
There are so many concepts of hell being explored in multiple shows and movies. However this memory of Charlotte's personal nightmare might just be one of the darkest ones I've heard. It's a beautiful morning that she gets to spend with her family when one of the criminals she helped set free enters their home and kills all of her loved ones. And she doesn't even get to mourn them, instead she's just left sitting there and smiling until another morning begins and another man destroys her family all over again. It's a horrifying and memorable view. And it puts Charlotte's struggle to become a better person in quite a new perspective. Tricia Helfer does an amazing job in this moment and Charlotte's pain is seen in every move she makes and heard in every one of her words. She doesn't just fear hell, she truly regrets what she's done in her past. She understands that she's the reason why there are murderers out there in the world who get to live their lives free because of her actions. The scene also helps viewers realize just how much it hurt Charlotte when she returned to life and learned that she lost the custody of her kids and can't even see her family anymore. Such a powerful and wonderfully acted moment. Also, I was glad to see Linda quietly listening to Charlotte's reveal, just letting her know at the end how brave she is for sharing this truth. Kudos to cast & crew for their great work!

RIVERDALE, "Chapter Twenty-Seven: The Hills Have Eyes", March 7, 2018, Actors: Madelaine Petsch, KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart and more, The Scenes: Cheryl comes out to Toni & Betty, Jughead, Veronica and Archie sitting in Pop's at the end
Aja: Betty, Jughead, Veronica and Archie sitting in Pop's at the end of the episode after their fight and the house invasion, coming out stronger than ever.
Jamie: Cheryl comes out to Toni. Ever since seeing an interview with the actress who plays Cheryl over the summer, I've been eagerly anticipating this moment. I can't wait to see more of this storyline. Also picked by Diana

SCHITT'S CREEK, "The Barbecue", March 6, 2018, Actors: Dan Levy, Noah Reid, The Scene: Patrick comes clean to David about his fiancé
Laura:
Patrick comes clean to David about his fiancé and David needs time to accept what he has heard. It was Patrick's love and acceptance of David as a whole, flaws and all, that inspired David to start really trusting people. And then this big bombshell was dropped and now David is questioning everything he just learned. Hearing David refer to himself as "damaged goods" hurts me so deep, and listening to Patrick talk about how David makes him feel right made my heart sink into the floor. Dan and Noah were effortlessly beautiful in this scene and I would be more upset about this revelation if it wasn't written and acted as stunningly as it was, and if I didn't trust these writers to have them reconcile in a satisfying way.
Beth: David and Patrick talk after Patrick's ex showed up. When we met David, he was so spoiled and so self-entitled, through his experiences in this quirky town, he has learned to open himself up and be honest and part of that lately has been due to Patrick. I love this relationship and the fact that David can be vulnerable enough to admit that he thinks of himself as 'damaged goods', talk about character growth!! This may be a comedy, but they bring every feel and it makes me smile.

STAR WARS REBELS, "Family Reunion - and Farewell", March 5, 2018, Voiced by: Taylor Gray, Ian McDiarmid, The Scene: Ezra's rejects Palpatine's offer
Milo:
As much as I want to pick the ending montage and pretty much everything else, Ezra's rejection of Palpatine's offer of being able to save his family stood out for me. It was emotionally powerful and really delivered.

SUPERNATURAL, "A Most Holy Man", March 8, 2018, Actors: Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, The Scene: The heart-to-heart talk at the end
Kollin:
The heart-to-heart dialogue between Dean and Sam never gets old, especially when it comes so unexpectedly at the end of a throwaway episode. This particular episode was about faith and the good fight. Earlier in the episode, the priest tells Sam and Dean that the world will never be perfect, but that is not an excuse to give up. Those who do good must do what they have to do, if not to make the world perfect, then to at least make it better. This is a universal theme that many of us, as viewers, feel, but it especially applies to Sam and Dean and their life of literally fighting the good fight. In the concluding scene, Sam questions the insurmountability of what they've been doing all their lives. What is it worth, if evil just keeps coming back? Can we really change things? And in response to Sam's questions, Dean says, "that would be nice," a short, but profound response that echoed the priest's words of advice - all we can do is imagine a perfect world, but in the meantime, we just got to keep having faith in what we do and keep fighting, and him brushing away Sam's question is him moving on to the next one.

THE ALIENIST, "Many Sainted Men", March 5, 2018, Actors: Dakota Fanning and more, The Scene: Sara's research at a mental hospital
Claire:
She encounters a row of women strapped in chairs staring out the windows. It is dark and dank, urine on the floor. A young woman begs for help. Sara speaks no words. Her eyes say everything. She looks at these women and sees herself. In 1896, one word from a husband and the wife could be put away for a long time. Dakota Fanning has come into her own as Sara Howard.

THE FLASH, "Enter Flashtime", March 6, 2018, Actors: Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Tom Cavanagh, Violett Beane, The Scenes: Harry shares his thoughts with Jesse & Barry and Iris find a way to save everyone
Justyna:
This was a fantastic episode with many memorable scenes to highlight. Grant Gustin did such an incredible job in the hour and I loved all of Barry's attempts to save the city with his friends and especially his moment with Iris. However, since their scene is already mentioned in the article, I decided to go with another emotional and beautifully acted moment - the one where Harry is not able to talk about the wife he lost so he chooses to share his thoughts with Jesse instead. This father-daughter duo has been through so much since their first appearance on the show, so I'm glad they finally reached this quiet understanding at the end of the episode. Tom Cavanagh continues to deliver brilliant performances and this one was no exception. Harry's voice keeps breaking down and his eyes are filled with deep sorrow when he struggles to let Jesse know why he can't just move on or even talk about losing the love of his life. He does find a way to make his daugther listen to everything he can't express with words by using the reverse thought inhibitor. This way, Jesse gets to hear her mother again and it's both heartbreaking and heartwarming to see these two sitting together and remembering what they've lost. "Because in the vast night sky, you are the only star I see." A wonderful reference to season one quote and beautiful memory to share. Kudos to cast & crew for all their wonderful work in the hour!
Naomi: At the beginning of a nuclear explosion, Barry brings things around him to a halt through his newly enhanced speed. Leaving everyone seemingly frozen in time, he is only able to communicate with his friends by keeping physical contact with them as they enter Flashtime. Exhausted and filled with the grief that everyone will die when he stops running, he uses the last bit of strength he has to awaken Iris. Barry is barely able to speak, but apologizes to Iris for not being the hero this time. She comforts him, though she is visibly shaken and afraid of what is to come. As they hold each other, Barry tells Iris she is his "lightning rod" and this statement sparks Iris with an idea to help Barry save Central City. How would you spend the last moments you have in the world? This scene breathtakingly answered that question. Watching Iris fight back tears as she tried to free Barry from his agony just broke my heart. Knowing they were about to die, Iris was able to put her fear aside and bring Barry back to what was most important- the fact that they were together. Iris being enveloped in Flashtime with Barry was shot beautifully. The way Barry looked at Iris when she suggested using lightning from the Speed Force was priceless. The passionate kiss and the flicker of lightning reflected in Iris' eyes as Barry sped away for the save closed the scene with a mic drop.

THE FOSTERS, "Makeover", March 6, 2018, Actors: Maia Mitchell and more
The Scene: Callie speaks at the panel
Luana:
It was amazing watching her debate and be so prepared and on point, and I love that she changed her major to law.

THE GOOD FIGHT, "Day 408", March 4, 2018, Actors: Christine Baranski, Michael Boatman
The Scene: The Car Ride
Laura B:
Diane confines in Julius about having Liz join their firm.

THE WALKING DEAD, "The Lost and the Plunderers", March 4, 2018, Actors: Andrew Lincoln, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, The Scene: Rick tells Negan that Carl is dead
Kollin:
In this concluding scene, we see a more human side in the antagonist Negan. Dean Morgan did a wonderful job in expressing the pain he felt upon hearing the news that Carl had died, and from a character standpoint, it did not feel out of place, as we had seen earlier in the season that he does have a soft spot in his heart for the kid. Negan's methods of retaining order may not be entirely moral, but at the end of the day he is human, and we see that for the first time in the scene. This scene makes things less black and white, as well, and more interesting. It begs the question, is Negan really the bad guy in all this? I mean, it was Rick who started the conflict by killing some of Negan's crew...in their sleep! And we see in this very scene how blinded Rick can be when he is filled with rage and/or an objective. He is not any worse than Negan. What is clear is that Rick makes one too many stupid and senseless choices, and thus, it was profoundly gratifying to see Negan tell him that straight up. Finally, someone gives Rick a reality check! And it is Negan of all people. It was a poignant and emotional scene that acted as a turning point for this All Out War storyline, and one that got me, who has detested the show week in, week out, back watching with anticipation. It is a resonant scene, driven by a theme that has acted as the backbone of this show over 13 seasons, but yet each time it is as emotional as the last.
DarkUFO: Rick talks to Negan over the walkie-talkie and tells him that Carl is dead.

THIS IS US, "This Big, Amazing, Beautiful Life", March 6, 2018, Actors: Lyric Ross, Joy Brunson, Sterling K. Brown and more, The Scene: Deja and Shauna stay at the Pearsons'
Luana:
After watching all they had to go through, it was nice to see Deja laugh and to see her mother understand it is the best place for her.
