Alone Together - Road Trip - Advance Preview

I thought I'd give Alone Together a chance. I thought I'd be optimistic, but after a lacklustre pilot, the odds for it improving weren't great. I'm pleased to report that in 'Road Trip'...yep, this show is just plain terrible.

It's just not funny, plain and simple. It's a comedy show completely lacking in comedy, and when you have a show like that, what's the point in it? I'm gathering that Esther, Benji and Jeff are all unsuccessful stand up comedians, which really isn't surprising when they're not funny in the slightest. The show doesn't give you enough of an idea of who the characters are though, and after two full episodes I'm not even sure I could describe either Benji or Esther at all, other than annoying and bland.

In 'Road Trip' the characters go on, you guessed it, a road trip. Esther plans the road trip for Benji's birthday, but there may be some misunderstandings about the trip which leads to 'shenanigans'.

I don't think the chemistry is there between Esther, Benji or Jeff, and to be honest there aren't really any redeeming qualities for this show at all at the moment. Maybe that it's only a half hour comedy and not a full hour. It could just be growing pains and that the show needs a couple more episodes to find it's groove, but if that is the case then it'll have taken the writers almost half a season to get the show on track. I just don't currently understand the promise that Freeform saw in it that caused them to renew the show for a second season. I hope for the people involved in making it and for the viewers who are sticking around that Alone Together does get better, but right now that's not the case.

Alone Together airs tomorrow at 8.30 on Freeform. Will you be watching? Let me know in the comments.
