The 2017 rounds of Performers of the Month and Performer of the Year are now complete. Throughout the past year, we’ve been given the opportunity to honor a lot of terrific performers through this feature. Going into 2018 there are a lot of major changes to the feature, but that should allow us to honor even more exceptional performers. The final performers we get to honor here for 2017 are our 2017 Reader’s Choice and Staff’s Choice Performer of the Year winners.
Sam Heughan easily swept his way to victory over his Outlander co-star/co-lead Caitriona Balfe. Both are truly extraordinary performers, but in the end, only one could win. Heughan is a fierce and immensely talented performer. He is gracious and superbly talented. Heughan delivered one exceptional performance after another in 2017 and is truly deserving of the title of SpoilerTV’s 2017 Reader’s Choice Performer of the Year.
Throughout 2017 the staff held our own POTM competitions. All of the staff nominees were put into a spreadsheet where we each ranked our Top 5 performers of the month. The Top 3 highest voted performers each month were given a spot in our Performer of the Year competition. We came up with an exceptional list of nominees, but in the end, only one of them could win. Tatiana Maslany of Orphan Black quickly swept to the top of the list and stayed there for most of the week. She is one of the greatest actresses of this generation. The way she managed all of her characters was a feat of massive proportions. The show might be over, but the legacy she left behind won’t soon be forgotten. She has an exceptional career ahead of her. As such it is an honor to give SpoilerTV’s 2017 Staff’s Choice Performer of the Year title to Tatiana Maslany.
These POTY articles take a bit more prep and work than regular articles to go back and review the exceptional performances these performers delivered throughout the year. These winner articles will be released as soon as possible, but don’t expect them much before the end of February to the beginning of March. If it is possible to get them out earlier than that we certainly will.
In the meantime, please feel free to use the comments to talk about these two exceptionally deserving winners and all their fellow nominees who were all terrific throughout the year.
Original Post:
This final round will determine who will carry the title of 2017's Reader's Choice Performer of the Year. This winner will receive an article looking back at their work throughout 2017. They will also be noted on all the 2018 POTM nomination and voting posts as the 2017 winner.
When this final winner is announced the 2017 Staff's Choice Performer of the Year will also be revealed.
Now comes the hard part, where you can only place one vote. This is especially hard when it's two beloved performers from the same show competing against each other, but whichever wins the winner will be very worthy of the title.
This poll will close on Saturday, January 20th at 6 pm ET.
