The SpoilerTV Top 20 Shows of the Year - 2017

Dec 19, 2017

As we approach the final days of 2017, end of year TV lists become all the rage, particularly the list of best shows from the past 12 months.

Here at SpoilerTV, we have just short of 100 team members, so rather than asking just one or two people to submit opinions, we compile a collective list from whomever among the team wishes to air their thoughts.

48 of our team submitted their top ten shows of the year, and below is the combined top 20.

From a combined 330 shows, 144 unique shows were chosen somewhere in a top ten list by at least one team member, giving a real diversity to our list.

Without further ado, here's our top 20.

The Leftovers ran away with the top spot - nine people ranked it as the best show of the year, while 17 people said it was among the top ten; both figures are the most of any show - with fellow HBO dramas Big Little Lies and Game of Thrones completing the top three. Those two, unsurprisingly, received the second-most selections with 16 apiece.

The Handmaid's Tale received the next most number one votes, with four. Interestingly, Stranger Things ranks at number seven despite no one selecting it as their show of the year. Three other shows in the top 20 - Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, The Americans, and Rick and Morty - share that quirk.

For those interested, here is the full table. You can also see 2016's results here - the two lists share just eight shows.

In the next couple of days, we'll open up our annual poll allowing you, the reader, to make your picks for the best shows of the year. For now, though, feel free to share your lists in the comments below.
