Thanks to Dot for the heads up.

You can hear the podcast and details here.

10:45 - The Gifted - Season 2 - Bryan Singer might lose producers credit

Thanks to Dot for the heads up.

Fox today announced a second-season renewal for its Marvel drama series The Gifted, set in the X-Men universe. The pickup release included Bryan Singer, who serves as an executive producer on the series. The top Hollywood director has been facing sexual misconduct allegations, including a recent lawsuit alleging sexual assault.

As director of the X-Men feature franchise, Singer had been attached as an executive producer on The Gifted from the get-go. He went on to direct the pilot.

“As part of his deal for directing the pilot, he is an executive producer on the series,” Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn told Deadline. “Truthfully, after he shot the pilot, he went and did a movie and had little to no involvement day-to-day in Season 1. But we take all the allegations very seriously, and we’re looking into it for Season 2. Right now we have a lot of time before it premieres, and we continue to have discussions about it.”

In addition to The Gifted, Singer is an executive producer on another Marvel/X-Men universe drama series, FX’s Legion.

21:05 - Animaniacs - Revival Receives 2-Season Order at Hulu

"IT'S TIME (AGAIN!) FOR AN-I-MAN-I-ACS!"

HULU, AMBLIN TELEVISION AND WARNER BROS. ANIMATION TEAM UP TO BRING BACK "ANIMANIACS"

Peabody and Emmy(R) Award-Winning Hit Cartoon Set to Return as First Hulu Original Series for Families, With Executive Producer Steven Spielberg

Landmark Deal Brings Full Animaniacs and Tiny Toons Libraries to Hulu

SANTA MONICA, CA (January 4, 2018) - Hulu, Amblin Television and Warner Bros. Animation today announced a new deal to create and premiere a brand-new version of the iconic family friendly cartoon franchise Animaniacs. Under the two-season straight-to-series order, Steven Spielberg will return as executive producer of the series, with Sam Register, President, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Digital Series, and Amblin Television Co-Presidents Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank also serving as executive producers. The series marks the first Hulu Original made for families, and with the legacy of these beloved characters, is intended to provide a co-viewing opportunity and experience for families to enjoy together. New episodes are set to premiere on the premium streaming service in 2020.

The Warner brothers, Yakko and Wakko, and the Warner sister, Dot - three inseparable, irascible siblings - have a great time wreaking havoc and mayhem in the lives of everyone they meet. They have been locked away in the Warner Bros. water tower for a very long time, but they have found a way to escape. And escape they do - every day! Causing chaos and comic confusion, Yakko, Wakko and Dot run loose in the city, turning the world into their personal playground. And fan-favorite characters Pinky and the Brain will also return to make appearances in each episode.

In addition to announcing the new series, Hulu and Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution also inked a new pact that makes Hulu the exclusive streaming home to the complete library of all 99 episodes of the original Animaniacs, as well as Pinky and the Brain, the subsequent Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain, and the complete Tiny Toon Adventures collection. As of today, Hulu subscribers can watch, catch up and relive their favorite moments from the original series with the whole family.

"We cannot wait to work with Steven Spielberg and the entire Amblin and Warner Bros. teams to bring more sketches, catchphrases, songs and laughs from the Animaniacs to kids and adults everywhere," said Craig Erwich, SVP of Content, Hulu. "Now one of the most beloved, inventive and funny animated franchises in history, Animaniacs and its cast of witty characters can live on, on Hulu. This marks yet another big move for us as we continue our efforts to be the #1 streaming destination for premium animated content."

"I am so pleased and proud that Animaniacs will have a home at Hulu," said Executive Producer Steven Spielberg. "Together with Warner Bros., we look to bring new audiences and longtime fans into this wild world of Yakko, Wakko, and Dot. I am also excited that the full library of Animaniacs and Tiny Toon Adventures episodes are included in the deal."

"Yakko, Wakko and Dot have been waiting impatiently inside the water tower, and now their hilarious brand of animated chaos will be unleashed - again! We're incredibly excited to be partnering with Amblin and Hulu for new episodes of Animaniacs, filled with endless laughs - and ongoing plots for world domination by Pinky and the Brain," said Sam Register, President, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Digital Series. "Parents who grew up with the cartoon now have new episodes to share with their own families."

The original Animaniacs made its television debut in 1993 and went on to become one of the most popular animated series for children. Since its premiere, the series has launched spin-offs and characters including Pinky and the Brain, and has set the record for most Daytime Emmy Awards in the field of Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composition for any animated series, winning three times.

With its balance of humor, education and pop culture references, Animaniacs also garnered a large adult fan following. Award-winning songs including "Yakko's World" and "Wakko's America" continue to educate audiences and remain fan favorites among both adults and children, and the series continues to remain popular among online fanbases.

The new show will become the first Hulu Original Series for families and will join the Hulu Kids library alongside full libraries of exclusive kids programming including Teen Titans Go!, Curious George, The Powerpuff Girls, Doozers, Adventure Time, Doc McStuffins, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and more.

Animaniacs is produced by Amblin Television in association with Warner Bros. Animation.

20:30 - Kidding - Frank Langella Joins Jim Carrey's Showtime Comedy as Series Regular

Frank Langella (The Americans) has signed on as a series regular opposite Jim Carrey and Catherine Keener in the upcoming Showtime half-hour comedy Kidding.

Created by Dave Holstein and directed by Carrey’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind helmer Michel Gondry, the 10-episode Kidding centers on Jeff, aka Mr. Pickles (Carrey), an icon of children’s television, a beacon of kindness and wisdom to America’s impressionable young minds and the parents who grew up with him – who also anchors a multimillion dollar branding empire. But when this beloved personality’s family (wife, two sons, sister and father) begins to implode, Jeff finds no fairy tale or fable or puppet will guide him through this crisis, which advances faster than his means to cope. The result: A kind man in a cruel world faces a slow leak of sanity as hilarious as it is heartbreaking.

Langella will play Seb, the man who built Jeff’s show from a school project to a nationally syndicated cultural touchstone with a multimillion-dollar merchandising empire. He must balance a growing concern for Jeff with the need to keep his onscreen persona from radically changing.

15:00 - The Widow - Kate Beckinsale to Star in ITV & Amazon Series
KATE BECKINSALE TAKES LEADING ROLE IN ITV AND AMAZON PRIME VIDEO DRAMA, THE WIDOW, FROM ACCLAIMED WRITERS HARRY AND JACK WILLIAMS

Internationally renowned film star, Kate Beckinsale, will star in ITV’s original limited series drama, The Widow, which will be produced in conjunction with Amazon Prime Video and written by Emmy, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominated screenwriters Harry and Jack Williams (Liar, The Missing).

Kate Beckinsale has proven to be one of the industry’s most versatile and charismatic performers. Beckinsale recently wrapped production on Farming, the directorial debut from Nigerian-British writer-director Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, opposite Damson Idris and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. She most recently starred in the Marc Webb drama The Only Living Boy in New York opposite Jeff Bridges, Callum Turner, and Kiersey Clemons, which was released by Amazon Studios. Prior to that, she starred in Amazon Studios’ comedy Love & Friendship, directed by Whit Stillman and based on Jane Austen’s novel Lady Susan, for which she won the Evening Standard Award, the London Film Critics Circle Award and was nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award for her performance. She is also known for her starring role in Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator.

In The Widow Kate will play Georgia Wells who has her life turned upside-down with a phone-call in the middle of the night. Her husband of over 10 years, Will, has been reported dead after a plane crash in the Congolese jungle.

Three years later, with her old life now a thing of the past, Georgia learns something shocking. Something that will take her to Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, looking to uncover the truth about his disappearance.

Still haunted by the past, Georgia is grieving for the man she loved and the life they’ve lost, but she hasn’t given up hope.

The Widow has been commissioned for ITV by Head of Drama, Polly Hill.

Commented Polly Hill:

“I’m delighted to announce Kate Beckinsale’s casting in The Widow. She is perfect for the role of Georgia in what is, as always, brilliant, compelling and surprising storytelling from Harry and Jack Williams. We’re very pleased to have secured the series which is an ITV original commission and co-production with Amazon Prime.”

On behalf of Amazon Prime Video, Brad Beale, Vice President, Worldwide TV Content Acquisition said:

“We are thrilled to continue our existing relationship with Kate Beckinsale on the heels of her incredible performances in Amazon Studios’ critically acclaimed films.”

“Harry and Jack Williams have created a powerful story, which will be brought to life by one of the world’s most talented actresses, and we are excited to bring this thrilling series to Prime members around the world,” he added.

Commented Harry and Jack Williams:

“Kate Beckinsale is a brilliantly talented actress and we’re thrilled she’s joining us on this journey – we couldn’t imagine anyone more perfect for the role. The Widow is our most ambitious and cinematic piece to date and we can’t wait to bring the dark heart of the Congolese jungle to the screen.”

The Widow will be produced by Eliza Mellor (Liar, The Living and the Dead, Poldark, Death Comes to Pemberley) and will be directed by lead director Sam Donovan (Humans, Liar, Utopia) and Olly Blackburn (Donkey Punch, Glue) who is also directing four episodes of the series. Jack and Harry Williams will executive produce the drama.

The series will go into production in January 2018 in South Africa, Wales and Rotterdam.

The Widow will premiere on ITV before airing as an Amazon Prime Original in the US. The series will be available exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories for members to watch via the Prime Video app for popular smart TVs, Fire TV, Fire Tablets and Android and iOS phones and tablets.

Mulch Diggums is a kleptomaniacal dwarf who works for the fairies. We are always a fan of Josh Gad and can’t wait to see him in yet another Walt Disney Studios film!

JUDI DENCH AS COMMANDER ROOT

LARA MCDONNELL AS CAPTAIN HOLLY SHORT

Captain Holly Short is the elf hero, and we’re pretty sure we’re going to want to be just like her.

NONSO ANOZIE AS BUTLER

Butler is Artemis Fowl’s bodyguard. Anozie also starred in Cinderella, so we’re already a fan.

04:30 - The Originals - Season 5 - To Have Elijah Centric Episode

"Three episodes in, we actually get an episode that is Elijah from start to finish, and it's the first time we've ever done that," creator and showrunner Julie Plec says. "We get to see where Elijah left off in that episode so long ago, and what he's been doing in the seven years that's passed."

Plec likened this episode, titled "Ne Me Quitte Pas," to one of Damon Lindelof's episodes on The Leftovers, which zeroed in on one character in particular to tell their story. If we're to take Plec at her word, it means we're likely to get Elijah in every scene of this bottle-like episode and very little of anyone else. Given that it takes place during the years the Original siblings have been separated by the Hollow, we may not see any of them at all.

It's also worth noting that this episode will be directed by series star Joseph Morgan, bringing his total directed episodes of the series up to three.
