Doctor Who - Christmas Special 2017 - Released a Week Early in America? [UPDATED]

Dec 5, 2017

UPDATE: The BBC have got back to me and "can confirm that BBC One are premiering Twice Upon A Time." So it looks like some sites have jumped the gun a little and fans won't have to worry about spoilers hitting the internet in the week before Christmas.

Amazon Video in America has announced what shows and films it has coming up in December, including the 2017 Christmas Special, which it states will be released on 18th December. Various online publications from Forbes to PC Mag and USA Today have stated that this information is correct, meaning that America will be getting Peter Capaldi's last episode, not to mention Jodie Whittaker's first as the Thirteenth Doctor, a whole week earlier than the rest of the world.

I have had a look at Amazon.com and have noticed that while you are able to order the DVD and Blu Ray on the main site now, the actual episode is not yet available for pre-order on Amazon Video. Therefore, I wonder if the 18th December date is when you will be able to purchase the episode ahead of it's air date on Christmas Day, which would seem more likely to me. At least, I hope so, as if the former date is the correct one for the actual release, then trying to stay away from spoilers for a whole week online will be a complete nightmare for fans of the show!

I will reach out to the BBC to see if they are able to comment on the issue.
