This season of Riverdale keeps perpetrating the completely different vibe in comparison with the first one and this episode confirms the trend. After the set-up of the third episode, Archie’s actions have consequences on people who are standing beside him as I wished they will have.
But let’s summarize what happened in this episode, The Town That Dreaded Sundown. Each character has a distinct storyline. Betty’s parents and Jughead find out that she didn’t tell them about the letters: this creates a series of problems for the blonde high school girl. Jug is unconsciously (or consciously) flirting with Toni, a new girl that will likely create problems for the ship Bughead. Veronica is the only one who is acting coherently and decently. She tries to support Archie in his crazy Red Circle’s quest and she fights with her father after she understands that he manipulated her boyfriend.
Archie is left alone by the circle: after the school drug dealer tells him that he is going too far, he doesn’t want to stop, and he decides that he will fight against Southside Serpents. The battle with the band ends badly, but at least it gives Archie the opportunity of reconsidering what he is doing. Veronica convinces him of dropping the gun into the Sweetwater River. I hope that this crazy storyline is over.
So overall, what do I think of this episode? I am hating more and more Hiram and Penelope. They are two selfish and self-absorbed parents who I hope will end up in prison soon. At least Betty’s mother is sassy and funny, we cannot say the same of the Lodges. Fred is still the best father in town, I am glad we didn’t lose him. Riverdale is still an entertaining hour of television and I am eager to find out if my theory is correct or not. If the show keeps this rhythm, I am gripped.
