"I’ve seen my death, this ain’t it."

Netflix's miniseries Godless is about to drop and anyone who's interested should not hesitate in watching it. It's described vaguely as a "Western set in an 1800's New Mexico mining town", and there's truly not a lot more to say plot-wise that wouldn't spoil our fun. If westerns are your thing, you will not be disappointed, but even if they aren't, you only have to enjoy a drama with some good storytelling and some amazing performances to be into this. It's written and directed by Scott Frank, executive produced by Steven Soderbergh and has an opening reminiscing of Ripper Street that does not hurt either.

It's filled with dark and gritty imagery and some complex characters. From the beginning, we see only sandstorms, cowboys and burnt corpses in all the glory of TV imagery. Burnt corpses, shot people, a derailed train, makes you wonder what could cause so much chaos, and what on earth would be worth that level of violence.

There are of course, some standouts, Frank Griffin (Jeff Daniels) is the leader of an outlaw gang who seems to be battling with a change of circumstances and his older age, but that makes his character a lot more real, otherwise, he would be a villain from TWD, especially with his tendency to mention his foreseen death.

Michelle Dockery, as Alice Fletcher, is as charming as ever, and with dead aim, she has an awesome son, Truckee, and a mysterious past, especially with the men in her life. She seems to be followed by tragedy and good luck at the same time, as she was literally saved by a dress. There's also Roy Goode (Jack O’Connell), a wanted man who's a lot more trouble than you'd think.

Mashall John Crook (Sam Waterston) seems to be the glue for the drama, and an amazing one at that, and Scoot McNairy is Bill McNue the "cowardly sheriff". There's a small appearance from Merritt Wever (The Walking Dead's Denise) as pretty much the only family Bill has left except for his daughter.

The first episode leaves you with a distinct feeling of "what the hell now?". And you know what? I'm pretty excited to find out.

"I hope I can do the same for you sometime."

Will you be checking out Godless? I look forward to your comments.
