Previously on The Good Place, Michael's third attempt somehow turns into over his 800th attempt at his neighbourhood, and drastic times call for drastic actions which lead him to asking the core four to team up with him to make his experiment work.
That leads us into Chapter 17, with Michael explaining why he needs their help and his plans for how they can help him, with The Bobcats (that's Jason's idea for a team name) left to decide whether they actually want to help him or not. In order to persuade them, Michael gives them a bit more information on more of the inventive ways that The Bad Place likes to torture people, which may include boiling water and scorpions.
This episode largely deals with the dilemma posed at the end of the last episode, and some people may be more on board with the idea than others. In order to convince them, an interesting proposition is put on the table which could change the DNA of the show entirely. I love that this show is actively trying to switch up the reboot concept and that they're really trying to explore how exactly they can make season two different to season one and not just cover old ground.
Elsewhere, Tahani still has questions as to why exactly she's been put in The Bad Place, and through flashbacks, we finally get to see what acts lead to her death and see her understanding why she has been placed where she has. It's a fun yet sobering scene, and it's nice to actually explore her character a bit more. I love that we do get to see more of her feelings of insecurity, as on the surface she may seem utterly entitled and pompous and generally a bit of an airhead, but she's actually harbouring a lot of pain and I think showcasing that a bit more will definitely make her more relatable to the audience.
There may or may not be a bit of a musical interlude in this episode from a character you won't expect, whilst another character may acquire an item which is a throwback to a previous encounter that they've had.
And until you watch the episode, here are a few of some of the funny lines in Team Cockroach:
"I've been thinking about this a lot over the last one and a third milliseconds."
"It was a butt reboot."
"My point is, you always trust dudes in bow ties."
