Scene Of The Week - October 29, 2017 + POLL

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great, memorable scenes that we've seen in past seven days on TV.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY: CULT, "Winter of Our Discontent", October 24, 2017, Actors: Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Billie Lourd and more, The Scenes: Ally is revealed as the new cult member & Kai tries to "impregnate" Winter
Luana:
Ally is revealed as the new cult member. This wasn't all that surprising but it was still an awesome moment, and Poison Ivy's face was priceless.
DarkUFO: Kai tries to "impregnate" Winter.

ANDI MACK, "Hey, Who Wants Pizza?", October 27, 2017, Actors: Joshua Rush, Sofia Wylie, The Scene: Cyrus comes out to Buffy
Klutzy girl:
It was such a powerful, amazing and perfect scene. Joshua Rush and Sofia Wylie knocked it out of the park. Buffy reassuring Cyrus that he'll be okay and is no different made me emotional. The fact that this was a first for Disney Channel means a lot too, and this is such an important storyline for all the kids watching. I can't wait to see where it goes from here because I can already tell they're coming from a place of respect and understanding. Also picked by Laura

CRIMINAL MINDS, "Lucky Strikes", October 25, 2017, Actors: Kirsten Vangsness, Joe Mantegna, Shemar Moore, The Scenes: Garcia lashes out at Rossi & Derek comes back to help Garcia
Samantha:
Garcia lashes out at Rossi as the stress gets too much. I am torn between this scene & Garcia's reunion with Morgan, but Garcia is very much the breath of comedic air that a show like Criminal Minds needs to stop itself from being too dark. Because she's the IT wizz, she's rarely ever in the field or having things to do in the episode for more than 5 minutes. This week was very much different to that & Kirsten Vangness was fantastic all the way through. JJ & Prentiss were trying to watch out for Garcia as well as keep everything normal, but Rossi's attempt at the usual humorous banter with Garcia was just too much as memories of the shooting haunted her and Garcia snapped, tried to calm herself down but was unable to and walked out. Do I think her PTSD should've lasted longer than being reunited with Morgan? Yes. Do I find the idea of her PTSD being solved as soon as they had one chat and a hug dangerous & the show's attempts at being self aware cheap? Absolutely, but you learn to live with these things when you're a fan of a procedural.
Dahne: Derek comes back to help Garcia through a tough case. Derek and Garcia have always had a special bond, so when Garcia flashes back to getting shot during their recent case, it makes sense that JJ brings in Derek to help her. I love how they connect so effortlessly that it is like Derek has never been gone. Mostly though, it was a great callback to their banter and unwavering support of each other. Criminal Minds can get too dark sometimes but it is the relationships between the team members that give it its heart.

GOOD BEHAVIOR, "I Want You to Leave a Person Alive for Once", October 22, 2017, Actors: Juan Diego Botto, Barrett Carnahan, The Scene: Javier gets Bryce to jump (picked by Darth Locke)

GREY'S ANATOMY, "Danger Zone", October 26, 2017, Actors: Abigail Spencer, Martin Henderson, Bardia Seiri, The Scene: The final scene with Megan, Nathan, Farouk at the beach
Saloni:
This episode was actually really good. Abigail Spencer knocked it out of the park.

HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, "I Love Her", October 26, 2017, Actors: Viola Davis, Liza Weil, Jimmy Smits, The Scenes: Annalise confronts Bonnie in the parking garage & Bonnie confesses that she loves Annalise
Dahne:
Annalise confronts Bonnie in the parking garage. This was all Bonnie’s episode and the therapist scenes were intense. However, the best part was getting to see more of the background between Bonnie and Annalise. It helped to cement exactly why Bonnie saw Annalise firing her as such a great betrayal. It was this betrayal that lead to the present day confrontation between them. Bonnie has always lacked confidence but to hear her describe herself as trashy and to hear Annalise say that she never thought of her in that way provided for the most intense scene of the episode for me.
Ann-Sophie: Bonnie breaks down in the Isaac's office when she realises she does, in fact, love Annalise. The scene was poignant and really reflected the complexity of their relationship. It was also beautifully acted. I am not usually a fan of the character, but this episode, that scene in particular, made me change my mind.
Marko: Bonnie confesses that she loves Annalise. Also picked by Laura

JANE THE VIRGIN, "Chapter Sixty-Seven", October 27, 2017, Actors: Tyler Posey, Elias Janssen, The Scene: Mateo has one simple request for Adam
Luana:
"Don't hurt her feelings and don't die, okay?" It was ruined a little bit by Adam's later freak out, but that scene was so sweet, Mateo wanting to talk in the porch "where his mom has all her important conversations", and all he wants is to protect her, apparently he does pick up on everything.

LUCIFER, "What Would Lucifer Do?", October 23, 2017, Actors: Tom Ellis, D. B. Woodside, The Scene: Amenadiel tells Lucifer he'll be there for him
Ann-Sophie:
Amenadiel tells Lucifer he'll be there for him after he lashes out at him. This scene was great because of what I think it will mean for their relationship in the future. It was great to see some real emotion between the two, because a lot of the times everything is extremely over the top between these two, but this moment seemed... real.

ME, MYSELF & I, "Family Tree", October 23, 2017, Actors: Bobby Moynihan, Brian Unger, The Scene: Alex tells Ron that he never needed to find his biological dad
Dahne:
When Alex’s daughter has a family tree assignment, she learns that Ron is not Alex’s biological dad. Alex looks up his biological dad for her and they go to meet him, but then turn around. When Ron questions Alex about it, Alex tells Ron that he never needed to meet his biological dad because from the time he was 14 years old, Ron was all the father he needed. Ron opened up his heart and his family to Alex and so Alex never felt the need to look any further. This is a comedy with plenty of laughs but even more heart.

MR. ROBOT, "eps3.2_legacy.so", October 25, 2017, Actor: Martin Wallström
The Scene: Tyrell is hidden away
Jimmy:
Tyrell is hidden away in an isolated cabin and wood chopping is used to convey time passing.

RIVERDALE, "Chapter Sixteen: The Watcher in the Woods", October 25, 2017, Actors: Casey Cott, Martin Cummins, The Scene: Kevin and his dad talk about his 'moonlighting'
Samantha:
Another example of what happens when you not only give an actor more than 20 seconds of screen time, but a script to act the hell out of as well. For a show such as Riverdale to cover this type of story can be dangerous ground, since you have to get it just right & they really did. Sheriff Keller's concern was solely over his son's safety. Kevin's sexuality is obviously a difficult topic for them both to discuss, which is understandable when you live in a small town. Their awkwardness over it was completely realistic, and something many can relate to, but Sheriff Keller realized it was something they needed to talk more about in the future so that Kevin can have safer options for a hook-up than 'moonlighting' and reassuring Kevin as he broke down that it would be ok & comforting him was brilliantly acted by Martin Cummins & Casey Cott.

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, "Lethe", October 22, 2017, Actors: Sonequa Martin-Green, James Frain
The Scene: Michael comes to terms with Sarek
Darth Locke:
Michael comes to terms with Sarek, after learning he's ashamed of himself.

STRANGER THINGS, "Chapter Two: Trick or Treat, Freak" & "Chapter Three: The Pollywog" & "Chapter Four: Will the Wise", October 27, 2017, Actors: Noah Schnapp, Finn Wolfhard, Winona Ryder, Gaten Matarazzo, The Scenes: Will opens up to Joyce about his visions & Dustin takes demi-dog home & Will and Mike talk about becoming freaks together
Justyna K:
There's so many brilliant scenes that I would love to highlight from the first half of the season, from all the interactions between Hopper and Eleven to the "crazy together" talk between Mike and Will. I loved getting a closer look at the friendship between these two but I wanted to give a shout-out to one of the strongest bonds on the series - between mother and son. Joyce has been a protective, determined, loving and strong mother from the start, despite all the craziness around her family, she's still a true rock whenever her little boy needs her. And when his visions become too much to take in, she convinces Will to tell her about them, so that she can help. It's impossibly hard to talk about but Will opens up to her and finds at least a little comfort with his mom. No matter what, Joyce fights with all her strength to keep Will safe and I'm glad he didn't hide what's happening from her but instead they join forces and try to figure it out together. Also, both Noah Schnapp and Winona Ryder are absolutely brilliant in the scene. I'm so glad Noah got his chance to shine this season because he did a fantastic job with everything the writers had in store for Will. And it was A LOT. This is a supernatural show about mysterious powers, monsters and different dimension, but for me, the reason why is works so well are all these families and friendships. So much heart in every story. Kudos to cast & crew for all their great work! So glad I caught up with the show before the start of season two.
Darth Locke: Dustin takes demi-dog home and nurtures it, thinking it's a reptile. I went out and bought 3 Musketeers bars (and I actually have a cat named Dartanian which makes this awkward), after seeing the sneak peek where the kids argue over candy, but I had no idea that it would become the Reese's Pieces of Stranger Things and that ANYTHING from the Upside Down would eat anything like low grade nougat, but more over just seeing Dustin bond with the creature was a really charming and touching thing for the series to add.
Milo: Will and Mike talk about becoming freaks together. This was a great scene that ended episode 2, both confessed their worries about what they were going through.

SUPERGIRL, "Far From the Tree", October 23, 2017, Actors: David Harewood, Floriana Lima, Melissa Benoist, Carl Lumbly, Carlos Bernard, The Scenes: J'onn shares a memory of his family home & Maggie confronts her father & Supergirl distracts the White Martians with her entrance
Justyna K:
There were so many emotional and meaningful moments in this week's episode. The one I wanted to highlight the most is both the most heartbreaking and heartwarming for me. When J'onn is not able to convince his father that he's his son, he decides to show him one of the memories of their home and the long lost family. Just seeing the children all happy and excited for the surprise, while knowing their fate, was incredibly sad to watch. Everyone's reactions made it so beautifully touching and memorable. And then came the reunion between loving father and son. The voices breaking, the embrace and wonderful acting by David Harewood and Carl Lumbly, got me quite emotional and happy that at least a part of their family was returned to these two when they found each other. Kudos to cast & crew for this beautiful moment.
DJRiter: Since others have already chosen my other favorites from "Far From the Tree" I'm going to add J'onn and his father's poignant father/son reunion. J'onn shows his father a touching memory with his daughters to convince him he wasn't a White Martian. David Harewood and Carl Lumbly were superb when the father recognized his long lost son and the two were tearfully reunited. Kudos to Melissa Benoist's / Supergirl's soft spoken reaction to seeing J'onn's daughters in his memory.
Samantha: Maggie confronts her father. This scene hit close to home for me, and probably many other people unfortunately. I'm not a massive fan of where Alex/Maggie's storyline is going, and outside the scenes with her father, their scenes this episode annoyed me. But focusing on the positives if anyone was in doubt that Floriana Lima can act the hell out of script when given the opportunity to? This scene should silence the haters.
Donna: So many good emotional scenes in Supergirl this week and I can’t pick my favorite so going for funniest: Supergirl distracts the White Martians by arriving in a classic Chevy (J’onn’s shapeshifting spaceship) playing ‘Hit me baby one more time‘.

THE BIG BANG THEORY, "The Collaboration Contamination", October 23, 2017, Actors: Simon Helberg, Mayim Bialik, The Scene: Amy and Howard sing out to Neil Sedaka
Ann-Sophie:
Amy and Howard sing out to Neil Sedaka, because I had a flashback to their Sweet Caroline moment in the car in 7x03, and I actually laughed out loud. I enjoy when they mix up the usual pairings in any given episode, it changes the dynamics just enough.

THE GIFTED, "eXit strategy", October 23, 2017, Actors: Emma Dumont, Stephen Moyer and more, The Scene: Lorna and Reed escape and reunite with the group
Justyna K:
I'm so glad that, despite all the problems along the way, Lorna and Reed actually managed to get free. Especially seeing how much everyone was fighting for them. But the most impressive show of strength actually came from Polaris herself at the end when she faces all the guards, stops their weapons with her power and finally gets free. Her character has truly grown so much on me during these few episodes. I'm very much interested to see where her story leads next. It was a lovely moment of happiness among all the craziness when Marcos and Lorna, and then Reed and Caitlin reunite. Now with all the main characters in one place, I can't wait to see what their plan is going to be. I'm expecting some conflicts but I'm hoping for unity and stronger together approach. The potential is limitless. Kudos to cast & crew for such an action-packed, emotional, well acted and satisfying scene!
Luana: The crew gets their powers back and they reunite with their loved ones. It was so cool seeing them all in action and teaming up using their abilities, and the reunions were sweet. Also, Polaris is amazing, it was awesome seeing her in full force.

THE GOOD DOCTOR, "Point Three Percent", October 23, 2017, Actors: Freddie Highmore, Dylan Kingwell, The Scene: Shaun reads to Evan at the end
Justin:
Shaun finishes reading To Kill a Mockingbird with Evan. Also picked by Laura & Marko

THE GOOD PLACE, "Janet and Michael", October 26, 2017, Actors: Ted Danson, D'Arcy Carden
The Scene: Michael admits to Janet that she's his friend
Klutzy girl:
It caught me off guard but they've been through 803 reboots together so it makes sense. It was a great scene.
Saloni: Michael admits to Janet that she's his only real friend.

THE WALKING DEAD, "Mercy", October 22, 2017, Actor: Norman Reedus
The Scene: Daryl crossing things off the list (picked by DarkUFO)

THIS IS US, "Brothers", October 24, 2017, Actors: Milo Ventimiglia and more
The Scene: The revelation that Jack had a brother (picked by Marko)
