22nd July 2017 - Ben Affleck Denies He's Exiting as Batman

During a San Diego Comic-Con panel for “Justice League,” the actor hit back at a report in The Hollywood Reporter that Warner Bros. was looking for ways to usher Affleck out of the DC Comics Extended Universe.

“I am the luckiest guy in the world,” Affleck said to thunderous applause. “Batman is the coolest f—ing part.”

“There’s a misconception that because I wasn’t directing it, I wasn’t enthusiastic about it,” said Affleck.

21st July 2017 - Ben Affleck's Batman Future in Doubt as Warner Bros. Plots Franchise

Ben Affleck is heading to Comic-Con this weekend to promote Warner Bros.’ upcoming Justice League movie, set for a Nov. 17 release. But how many more times is he likely to put on the Batsuit? Probably not many, if ever again.

Yes, Warners’ film studio chief Toby Emmerich tells The Hollywood Reporter, "Ben is our Batman. We love him as Batman. We want to keep him in the cowl as long as we can." And Matt Reeves, who will direct the studio’s still-undated (and unwritten) The Batman, has said that he means to keep Affleck in the role. But a source with knowledge of the situation says that the studio is working on plans to usher out Affleck’s Batman — gracefully, addressing the change in some shape or form in one of the upcoming DC films.

Exactly when and how that might happen has yet to be determined, but it would be wise to bet against Affleck starring in The Batman. Already he has stepped away from directing the film and Reeves is dropping the script that Affleck wrote with D.C. Entertainment’s Geoff Johns.

“He’s this really endearing, altruistic nerd,” Miller says. “He’s the 13-year-old Metallica fan, and Metallica says, ‘We lost our drummer in a freak accident. We need you to play drums, bro!’ I don’t even have drumsticks!” Though the film’s plot is a guarded secret, the Flash will join DC’s most powerful heroes to fight a cosmic threat, hopefully with Wonder Woman on lead guitar and Batman on bass.

22nd May 2017 - Zack Snyder Departs to Deal with Family Tragedy

Snyder tells The Hollywood Reporter he is stepping away from Justice League, Warner Bros.’ all-star DC Comics superhero mega-movie that is in post-production, in order to deal with the sudden death of his daughter. Snyder's wife, Deborah Snyder, who is a producer on Justice League, also is taking a break to focus on the healing of their family.

Stepping in to shepherd the movie through post and the shooting of some additional scenes will be Joss Whedon, the Avengers filmmaker and creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. With Whedon's help, the movie is still on track for its Nov. 17 release date.

Snyder’s daughter, Autumn Snyder, died by suicide in March at age 20. Her death has been kept private, with only a small inner circle aware of what happened, even as the movie was put on a two-week break for the Snyders to deal with the immediate effects of the tragedy. Zack Snyder says he initially was eager to return to the film, which stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller.

The 2017 Justice League film has two more characters reprising their roles: Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, and Connie Nielson as Queen Hippolyta. The news was listed in a new press kit sent out by Warner Bros. on Thursday, along with a new synopsis for the film.

“Flash is Ringo Starr,” says Miller, pictured here alongside allies the Dark Knight (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot). “He annoys everybody, but he doesn’t have any specific beef with anyone.”

Miller also offers up Flash’s blunt assessment of his fellow leaguers. “Uncle Fish Curry [Aquaman] is very grumpy. Dad [Batman] gets grumpy too. (He’s had a long life of fighting crime.) Wonder Woman is very considerate, so even though she’s annoyed with the Flash, she’s still very compassionate.” Yeesh. Don’t get him started on Superman.

  • 4th November 2016 - Ciaran Hinds Cast as Steppenwolf
It looks like the “Justice League” found it’s bad guy as “Game of Thrones” star Ciaran Hinds will play Steppenwolf in DC Films’ upcoming ensemble superhero movie which recently wrapped production, TheWrap has exclusively learned. Actor will play villain in motion capture performance.

Hinds recently wrapped production on the role of Steppenwolf which is a motion capture character from an alien planet, much like the Marvel Studios villain Thanos played by Josh Brolin in “Avengers: Infinity War.”

Insiders also said that Steppenwolf’s look will be upgraded from his first appearance in the DC Films universe in a deleted scene from “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

In that clip released the Monday after the film’s opening weekend, Lex Luthor (Jesse Esienberg) communicates with Steppenwolf via the technology on the Kryptonian ship.

When the SWAT team arrived to arrest Luthor, Steppenwolf screeched and cut off contact. The clip never revealed who this alien was, but one of the strongest theories was that it was Steppenwolf, going off its physical appearances and the three mother boxes.

  • 30th August 2016 - Ben Affleck Hints at Deathstroke's Presence in Justice League & Batman Solo Movie

Ben Affleck revealed test footage on Twitter this morning of Deathstroke, an assassin/mercenary who is the co-founder of Lex Luthor’s Secret Society of Super Villains in the DC universe. Deathstroke is also a nemesis of Batman’s, and at one point worked with Ra’s al Ghul’s daughter Talia. Together they controlled Robin via neural implant to kill Batman.

It’s not clear how Deathstroke will factor into Warner Bros’ DC Universe — whether the character will appear in the upcoming Justice League or Affleck’s Batman stand-alone film. Likely it’s Justice League, which is coming out November 17, 2017.

  • 6th May 2016 - Ben Affleck Elevated to Executive Producer
Ben Affleck, who is already starring in Justice League as Batman, will now act as an executive producer on Warners’ mega-comic book that is already in production, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Zack Snyder is directing the movie but the move legitimizes Affleck as a creative voice in the moviemaking process.

The actor-turned-filmmaker will work with Chris Terrio, his screenwriter from Argo and Batman v. Superman, to fine tune the script and he will also inform the post-production process, according to sources.

The move comes as BvS has come to the end of its box office run, grossing $864 million worldwide. While that number seems solid on paper, the studio was expecting more. The fan reaction and review also seemed a rejection of the dark tone created by the movie’s filmmaking team.

  • 19th April 2016 - Willem Dafoe Joins Cast
Willem Dafoe is joining the good guys in Justice League.

Dafoe, who starred as the villainous Marvel character Green Goblin in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies, is playing a good guy in a role that will see him appear in both parts of the JL movies. Details of his character, however, are being kept under lock and key.

The movie began production last week with Zack Snyder, fresh off of the worldwide tour promoting Batman v Superman, in the director’s chair.

Chris Terrio wrote the screenplay for Justice League, which will be released in two parts by Warner Bros. Justice League: Part One will hit theaters on Nov. 17, 2017, while Part Two is slated for release on June 14, 2019.

  • 7th March 2016 - J.K. Simmons Cast as Commissioner Gordon

Oscar winner J.K. Simmons has been cast as the Gotham City police commissioner.

Justice League, which will be directed by Zack Snyder, sees heroes Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) teaming up to combat a threat beyond each member's capabilities.

Chris Terrio wrote the screenplay for Justice League, which will be released in two parts by Warner Bros. It's produced by Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder and George Miller.

Justice League: Part One will start shooting in mid-April. It's slated for release on Nov 17, 2017 while Part Two will hit theaters on June 14, 2019. Warner Bros.' next DC film will be Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which hits theaters on March 25.

  • 14th January 2016 - Amber Heard in Talks to Star As Mera
Amber Heard is in negotiations to join Warner Bros.’s DC Universe.

If a deal makes, Heard will star opposite Jason Momoa as the female lead in Aquaman, several sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

She will make her appearance first in Justice League, the movie that introduces various characters and story threads to fully launch the cinematic universe based on the DC Entertainment characters.

    Warners had no comment.

Heard will play Mera, the love interest of Aquaman and eventual queen of Atlantis. First appearing in 1963, the character’s powers include the ability to control and even solidify water.

Justice League is due to begin shooting April 2016, swimming towards a Nov. 17, 2017 release date. Aquaman is due to hit shore eight months later, July 27, 2018.

  • 3rd July 2015 - Script Complete
Additionally, EW confirms that the script for the upcoming Justice League Part One has been completed by screenwriter Chris Terrio, who re-wrote David Goyer’s initial draft of “Dawn of Justice.” Perhaps this is where Brainiac will rear his ugly head when the film hits theaters on November 10, 2017.

  • 15th October 2014 - Film Announced
Warner Bros. did its big shareholder talk this morning, and took the opportunity to drop some big release date info. The biggest is the studio’s upcoming plans for superhero films, and massive DC movie plans were revealed.

Suicide Squad will be the first DC film to follow Batman v Superman, with a plan for release in 2016. Then things get really big. In 2017 we’ll see Wonder Woman and Justice League, with 2018 bringing The Flash (with Ezra Miller starring) and Aquaman. In 2019 WB plans Shazam and Justice League 2.

  • 5th June 2012 - Film In Development
While Disney and Marvel were busy shooting “The Avengers” last year, Warner Brothers quietly began getting its own all-star superhero pic back on track, tapping “Gangster Squad” scribe Will Beall to write “Justice League,” based on the WB-controlled stable of DC Comics superheroes.

Warner Bros. had no comment on the top-secret hire, which, due to its timing, was more in anticipation of — rather than a reaction to — the box office success of “The Avengers.”

Beall has yet to turn in his “Justice League” script, though he has become a favorite scribe of Warners. He’s been linked to the studio’s proposed “Lethal Weapon” reboot and several other projects at WB, which will release “Gangster Squad” on Sept. 7.
