Family Comedy Based on Nate Bargatze's Life from Jerrod Carmichael Receives Put Pilot at FOX

Jerrod Carmichael is attached to write and executive produce a series in development at Fox based on the life of comedian Nate Bargatze, Variety has learned exclusively.

The currently untitled multi-camera series, which has received a put pilot order at the network, deals with Bargatze’s struggle moving back home to Tennessee and being caught between his wife and opinionated parents.

Bargatze will also serve as a writer and executive producer alongside Carmichael.

Lil Rel Howery to Star in Single Father Comedy with Put Pilot Commitment at FOX

Lil Rel Howery is set to headline a multicam comedy for Fox exec-produced by his former co-star Jerrod Carmichael, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The untitled project, which has received a put pilot commitment, centers on Lil Rel, a prideful, self-made success who lives by the code to “always believe in yourself and great things will come." However, he finds that attitude put to the test when he learns his wife is having an affair with his own barber. He tries to rebuild his life post-divorce as a long-distance single father on the West Side of Chicago on a quest for love, respect, and a new barber.

Howery will write the project with Josh Rabinowitz & Kevin Barnett (The Eric Andre Show). The trio will exec produce with Carmichael and former Carmichael Show co-exec producer Mike Scully, who will serve as showrunner if the comedy is picked up to series. The project is the first to stem from Carmichael's rich overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television, which he signed last month.
