The Good Place - Everything Is Great - Advance Preview: "This Is A Fun Situation"

NOTE: SPOILERS FOR SEASON ONE FINALE BELOW

The Good Place was one of the highlights of the 2016-2017 TV season, and for me personally was definitely one of the strongest debuts of last year. I'm more than excited that the show is back, but with the big twist that was delivered at the end of last season (that instead of being in The Good Place, our main quartet were actually in The Bad Place in a new experiment designed by architect Michael), I was a little concerned of how they would be able to continue the show without covering old ground. This is largely what the premiere deals with, along with updating us on how Michael has been scheming since the finale, and the fates of Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani, and Jason.

Following the events of the finale, everyone and everything has been rebooted, and Michael has plans for how this time he's going to make his neighbourhood experiment work. Marc Evan Jackson is also back for this episode as Michael's boss, and his delivery is as deadpan and great as ever leaving Michael with a tough ultimatum. The premiere shows the experiment in an even grander way than we got to expereience last season; people are assigned roles and characters and are given reign to develop them how they want, characters are manipulated into situations which on the surface seem great for them but are then cruelly twisted into something horrible at the last minute - it's The Good Place that we got to know and love last season but with an added dynamic.

After Eleanor discovers her note from herself, she's on a quest to find Chidi, but is Chidi a person or a thing? Is Chidi food? The writing in this episode is excellent and takes us back to how the characters were when we first met them, but also adds in elements of the development that we saw from them throughout season one, so in essence it isn't a complete reboot. On her mission to find Chidi, she also discovers that something about The Good Place might not be as it seems.

This episode shows us what the reboot is like for all of the main characters, and manages to intersect their new lives with the other main characters before coming to a head near the end of the hour. Michael definitely has some treats in store for all of them.

The Good Place premieres tomorrow at 10/9c with a double episode before moving to it's regular timeslot next week. Which characters are you most looking forward to seeing again and how do you hope the show develops after the major plot twist in the season 1 finale?
Also a quick note to UK fans (or possible fans), season one will hit Netflix on Thursday 21st of September if you want to watch or rewatch.

And until you watch the episode, here are a few of some of the funny lines in Everything Is Great:
"I knew you weren't a soup."
"Hold that thought. I'm gonna head to the gym."
"Is that some kind of nerd pick up line? Because it's only kind of working."
