Midnight Texas- Last Temptation of Midnight, Riders of the Storm and The Virgin Sacrifice - Review: Road to Hell
26 Sept 2017
DC Midnight Texas ReviewsI was hoping before I managed to review the final three episodes of this series we would have news of a renewal; Summer figures were steady and a fan base that has gotten behind this adaption of Charlaine Harris’s Midnight series.
The characters were rich and intriguing and while some of the plot points left us all wondering, there were enough reveals to make it interesting enough to pursue for another season.
Let’s look back at the final three episodes, from Manfred on the run to in the end saving Midnight and Fiji giving away not just her secrets…
Last Temptation we see, Manfred is running scared he can’t possibly save Midnight from Hell coming to earth. The woman he loves doesn’t want him so why stay?
In Midnight itself it’s not just Fiji who is being affected by the voice. Seems the demon and the veil fraying is getting into everyone’s dark thoughts.
Lem and Olivia’s relationship seems to suffer the most though it does make for some epic fight scenes and shows’ off Olivia’s Impressive skills. However, Lem isn’t himself and Olivia does not want to be turned and live with him forever.
Outside of town and a face-stealing Demon is heading to Midnight to bring sacrifices to open the veil. Face stealing demons seems to be a thing this year in tv shows, can’t say I am a fan.
Manfred’s luck isn’t doing so well either his mobile home breaks down. We learn a bit more about his past, seems he was abandoned by his mother with his Grandmother because he had the gift. She taught him the best thing about having a mobile home is you can go when things get tough. We also learn her spirit is tied to the home but that isn’t the case. She had a vision about Manfred stopping the demon in Midnight but she was afraid to tell him. Manfred heads out to find a gas station but soon becomes disorientated. His grandmother appears to him and it’s an emotional farewell as she has delivered the message she was supposed to Manfred must return to Midnight. However, his ride happens to be the face-stealing demon in disguise. He escapes but hides among the bodies to get back to Midnight where they manage to cure their friends of their worst selves.
They also stop the demon or so they think but hell is coming and soon.
As the storm comes so do the demons to make way for the big bad's arrival.
Fiji is battling demons of her own as we finally learn her backstory. We see this through flashbacks as the gang head out of town trying to race away from the storm. Everyone wonders why the demon wants Fiji, who reveals she more powerful a witch because she is a virgin. Sadly, her one and only boyfriend and nearly lover got fried by her passion and inability to control her powers leaving her scared.
To find out how to stop the demon Fiji casts a spell and thankfully it’s not Mr. Snuggly who gets sacrificed but Manfred who appears to die. The Sharman, who sealed the veil the last time it was torn apart, comes to Manfred and tells him how to defeat the demon. While the others are distracted and quite distraught over Manfred’s death, Fiji goes with one of the demons who take on the appearance of her old, dead boyfriend.
Manfred comes back, the spell worked but now they must race to save Fiji. Interesting to find out she was named Fiji after the island.
In the Finale of the series. The Midnighters mean business they want their town back and they want to close the veil. Manfred has a plan but first, they need to rescue Fiji.
Bobo has an idea and to be fair there are way too many jokes I could make about this, needless to say, Fiji loses something but gains a whole lot more.
Of course, the Demon isn’t too happy about this but Manfred has a plan, I believe I mentioned that. He lets a lot of evil spirits inhabit his body and in a scene that kind of reminded me of the duel in ‘Goblet of Fire’ minus wands.Evil over evil wins but the question is how can all those spirits not have affected Manfred.
As for casualties, Olivia gets badly burned by a demon. thankfully Lem gets to the hospital in time and heals her with his blood. These two clearly makeup and a wedding is held in the church, seems the Rev performed some magic of his own. Manfred and Creek also reconcile but with bleeding from his ears, we wonder if Manfred ok.
As we say goodbye to the Midnighters and hope for more. A hotel is set to open in town and from what Manfred see’s it already has guests...
