Hey all,
2014 winner Outlander is back in action today, taking on one of two remaining comedies - both of which feature today - in the form of The Big Bang Theory. The Starz series has rather conveniently just returned to viewers' screens, which may well give it something more of an edge than it might have otherwise had. CBS's flagship comedy, meanwhile, certainly isn't weak but probably lacks the strength to topple its opponent today. A third round exit would be pretty admirable, given this is its first appearance since 2014 when it completed its fourth straight year with a round one defeat.
Of all the shows, Supernatural is probably the one to fear. Its record in this competition is indisputably stunning, with quarter-final and/or better finishes in all seven previous years. And yet I wonder whether Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the show with the final chance in 2017 to break the CW series' record, fears it at all. Once Upon a Time, the show it beat to make it to this third round, is no slouch, and that it won so comprehensively (garnering 61.4% of the vote) suggests real potential. Not to mention the fact that this is its first appearance in the competition. Should Supernatural get through, the potential of a last eight encounter with Outlander is mouth-watering. But I suspect today could be an unexpectedly difficult test.
