Shadowhunters - Hail And Farewell - Advance Preview: "Ave Atque Vale"

Previously on Shadowhunters, Jonathan's cover was blown after an attack on Max and the Institute left him taking desperate measures, which lead to Clary discovering his true identity, Luke, Maia, and Simon helped Bat after he was turned into a werewolf, and Magnus and Alec broke their own hearts a little after Magnus chose to form an alliance with the Seelie Queen.

This week, we actually have a really interesting episode storywise, in that almost everything we see seems to be interconnected, as opposed to the standard two or three separate storylines that we usually get.

As the Downworlders try to track down Valentine and Jonathan with their own methods, the Shadowhunters also try to do the same. As teased in the promo for this week's episode, Clary and Jace end up getting pretty close and personal with each other, activating their angelic powers in order to help with their hunt for Jonathan. If you are a fan of Clace, then you'll be happy to know that you get a couple of scenes in this episode that further develops the special relationship that they have. Of course though, even with angelic powers, Valentine and Jonathan weren't going to make it easy for anyone to find and capture them, and this episode has multiple fight scenes along the way.

'Hail And Farewell' actually features probably the longest fight/action scene that Shadowhunters have ever done, clocking in at almost three minutes. It's high intensity, and leads you to believe that an unfavourable outcome is imminent. We also get to see interactions between multiple characters who don't usually share screentime with each other as they form alliances, fight together, or discuss the idea of teaming up in order to achieve mutual goals. As the sides against the fight with Valentine are formed, there are shifts in powers within and between certain groups, which some characters are not entirely on board with, and which could lead to further tension in future episodes.

This episode is high action, and just when you think Shadowhunters can't have any more surprises, they end on a cliffhanger that will make you question exactly what the main characters have got themselves into, and how devastating the consequences of it may be.

With Valentine and Jonathan in the wind and in search of the last Mortal Instrument, the stakes are already incredibly high. Events that transpire however, raise the bar even higher for what is going to be a showdown on multiple levels in the finale. What scenes are you most hoping to see in 'Hail And Farewell'? Remember to tune in Monday at 8.00 on Freeform.

And with that I'm going to leave you with a few teasers to tide you over until Monday:
- Izzy has one of my favourite pieces of dialogue from this episode.
- Some of the relationships/friendships that have been on the back burner in the past few episodes get a little bit of a highlight.
- Two fan favourite Downworlders who have not previously interacted on screen together get a scene with each other.
- Some behind the scenes pictures that have been going around online in the past few days may have been a part of something that appears in this episode.
- "If you are trying to goad me into a fight, it is working."
