Shadowhunters - Beside Still Water - Advance Preview: "You Can't Get Rid Of Me That Easily"

Previously on Shadowhunters everyone within the Shadow World was on the lookout for Valentine and Jonathan, and whilst they tried to make a valiant escape, Jonathan was found by the Shadowhunters, and Valentine offered himself to the Seelie Queen. Following a fierce fight, Jonathan seemingly plummeted to his demise, whereas Valentine may have had a more favourable outcome.

In the main storyline of this episode, the hunt is yet again on for Valentine who is finding any available option to make his way to Idris in order to unite the Mortal Instruments. With Shadowhunters needed in multiple places at the same time, Jace volunteers himself and Clary to travel to Idris and try and stop Valentine before his plan can come to fruition, but things quickly get out of hand and there may be dire results for multiple Shadowhunters as a cost of their decision to trust certain people. This episode is probably, definitely the most violent that the show has ever done and multiple characters are touched by it as a result. You might not expect some of the actions that transpire which some of the main characters make, maybe you will, but either way you probably will be shocked when you watch for the first time. Expect to see the known tenacity of both Clary and Jace, their bond, and multiple parts of what makes them such special characters.

Elsewhere, Alec and Izzy enlist Magnus' help in fighting off a flurry of demons that have found their way into the city, albeit with a little bit of respectful reluctance on Alec's part. We get to see a bit more of Magnus doing some magic this episode, which has obviously been on the back burner as more pressing personal issues for him and his relationships have been given the forefront. The trio combine their powers and skills to fight together, and I hope their professional relationship is one of those that is explored more in season 3, along with more of the parabatai bond, as I think they're some of the most important relationships on the show.

Simon and Luke also travel to the Seelie Court in order to rescue Maia, following the Queen taking her at the end of 'Hail And Farewell'. Luke quickly figures out exactly what transpired between the Queen and Valentine at the end of the last episode, and realising that the Queen is not to be trusted, and would sacrifice any Downworlder bar Seelies, ensures that Simon and himself stop at nothing to get Maia back.

Every action has consequences and this couldn't be more true in this episode. These consequences will be seen and will definitely influence at least some of 3A, if not the entirety of that half season. There are multiple cliffhangers at the end of the episode, which directly affect at least half of the main characters, and will have definite repercussions for the entirety of the Shadow World.

In an episode that excellently combines action, trust, and the power of relationships, the scene is set for what is looking like a great 3A. This is a show that some people may wish to write off, but for me, it's one that has only grown in quality with each season or half-season that they create, and I can't wait for what they're going to show us next. What scenes are you most hoping to see in 'Beside Still Water'? Remember to tune in Monday at 8.00 on Freeform.

And with that I'm going to leave you with a few teasers to tide you over until Monday:
- There are a few romantic declarations across the hour.
- A line spoken at the start of the hour may have implications for season 3.
- We may get a first glimpse of a location from the books that we haven't seen before.
- There is some Shadowhunter vs Shadowhunter fighting.
- "The two of you together are too dangerous."

It's been a blast writing previews for 2B. Hopefully I'll see you back here for further Shadowhunters previews in 3A (which, fingers crossed, will be premiering early-mid January 2018). Thank you for all your comments and interacting with me and my reviews every week!
