Hector Elizondo & Holland Taylor to Star

Comedy veterans Hector Elizondo (Last Man Standing) and Holland Taylor (Two and a Half Men) have been cast as the leads in Guess Who Died, NBC’s single-camera comedy from Norman Lear and Peter Tolan, which has a pilot production commitment.

Guess Who Died, from Sony Pictures TV, is based on Lear’s personal experiences and described as a humorous and inspiring look at the shared joys and challenges we all experience at any stage of life. The comedy is set in the Las Esperanzado Senior Community in Palm Springs. It centers on Murray (Elizondo), a retired music executive who is positive and upbeat with sparkling eyes and a keen, sharp and wonderful sense of humor. After the death of his beloved wife, he realizes he’s fallen in love with his sister-in-law, Patricia (Taylor), a former American Airlines flight attendant, who can be a little too proper at times, but she’s sharp as a tack with a great sense of humor.

Update: Per Production Weekly we have a synopsis of the potential NBC comedy.

Living at the Las Esperanzado Senior Community in Palm Springs is always interesting for retired music industry executive Murray who seems to thoroughly enjoy the company of his rather eccentric neighbors. However, after the death of his beloved wife, he has an interesting revelation - he realizes he's fallen love with Patricia, his wife's sister.

Norman Lear’s longtime passion project Guess Who Died is coming closer to reality. The single-camera comedy, on which he has teamed with Rescue Me creator Peter Tolan, has landed at NBC with a pilot production commitment. Sony TV, where Tolan is under an overall deal and where Lear has the Netflix revival of his One Day At A Time, is the studio.

Based on Lear’s personal experiences and in partnership with Tolan, Guess Who Died is described as a humorous and inspiring look at the shared joys and challenges we all experience at any stage of life.

The project, which Lear has been championing for more than seven years, is described as a humorous and inspiring look at the shared joys and challenges we all experience at any stage of life. NBC notes the potential series is inspired by Lear, 95, and his secret to longevity: to continue learning and growing — but especially when society expects you to slow down. It's based on Lear's personal experiences and will be told in partnership with Tolan's authentic and irreverent voice.
