Wynonna Earp- Gonna Getcha Good and She Ain't Right - Review : It’s definitely going to get you
Jul 4, 2017
DC Reviews Wynonna EarpI do feel summer shows at times work harder to get the viewers. This is due to people having more interest in holidays and spending time out in the better weather than curled up in front of the TV. The other reason is they tend to get shorter runs. So, it’s no wonder four episodes in and things are really going at some pace before we have even reached the halfway stage of this season of Wynonna Earp.
It certainly has been an entertaining couple of episodes with so much crammed in you barely have time to catch your breath. The main points are, Dolls returns but will he be the same guy again or has the demon side took hold? Waverly getting more Gooverly (fan name for Waverly while under the influence of the black goo, started by Melanie Scrofano I believe). Nicole and now Wynonna noticing her sister is not quite there and Waverly feeling something isn’t right herself.
In ‘Gonna Getcha Good’
We have Doc and Rosita cooking up a cure for Dolls in the lab below the bar. Not sure what Rosita’s story is yet but I doubt Wynonna trusts her. Doc gets a new hat. We see the many talents of Dominque Provost – Chalkley playing different sides to Waverly as well as a dancer and lounge singer. Plus, my personal fav moment, Agent Lucado gets the smack in the chops she has had coming since the end of season one.
Of course, most of us like to entertain our partners, please keep your thoughts out of the gutter. However, Waverly is giving Nicole her own private cheerleading session. Seems Purgatory had a championship hockey team who won the Trophy ten years ago and a reunion is going on in town. Before all this happens though we see a guy rip his own organs out. Clearly, the scary thing in the burlap sack mask the other side of the trophy case has something to do with it. The tone is set; I am guessing black badge has another case to solve.
Nicole isn’t happy about this and we can guess she is a bit put out by recent events and feeling shunned by Waverly from Black Badge. The day goes from bad to worse when not only does her relationship with Waverly seem to be off point, she also gets schooled by Sheriff Nedley for how things run in Purgatory after getting tossed around by our demon of the week.
Wynonna is in the Doc’s newly opened Bar with new BFF Mercedes. Who has about as much sass as Wynonna. Also, she tells Wynonna to get some from the rather hunky guy, Perry, from High School here for the reunion. He does take an interest but with the terrible flirting from Wynonna, you wonder if he will call. Call he does, but the reason looks very sinister as Perry seems to be performing some sort of ritual with a dead bunny.
Also, Wynonna soon learns the taking your own organs was due to a curse cast by Perry and his teammates 10 years ago so they would win the championship. Of course, the Wish-Demon, who looks like a scary version of the scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz wants payment and as his friends start dying Wynonna races to save those who remain.
Doc confides in Wynonna about his work in the lab and how a pure demons blood will help. The demon gets put back into the bottle, well the trophy for this demon. Let’s hope they can use it to help Dolls.
In ‘She Ain’t Right’
Waverly is found wandering the property that morning claiming sleep walking. Of course, Wynonna sees her and gives Waverly her coat which is a blessing as she later discovers Dolls dog tags in the pocket put there by Waverly.
Once again, this episode turns up the gore as a briefcase along with the hand is removed from a black badge agent by a very sinister looking duo. Agent Lucado wants to regain favour with her bosses and wants Wynonna to investigate but she is still focusing on the seal, from episode two, that cracked open in the school. Waverly jumps at the chance and is briefed by Lucado, Nicole and Wynonna talk over coffee and a lack of spoons (we all have seen Gooverly’s attraction to shiny things) Wynonna admits Nicole was right about Waverly’s strange behaviour.
The discovery of the dog tags in her pocket leads her to Dolls in the barn along with a lot of shiny things. Of course, Dolls is far gone but gets knocked out by our heroine and delivered to Doc and Rosita (who I still think is hiding something). They are unsure if their home brew formula will work so enlist the help of Jeremy while Lucado takes Waverly undercover to retrieve the briefcase.
Wynonna heads after her sister who gets mistaken for the singer at the club she was breaking into and shows some great vocal skills. Seems the duo from earlier are planning on selling the case but become suspicious so kill the buyer thinking they will keep the contents for themselves.
Lucado lied to Waverly; she has no backup. Wynonna who arrives just in time as Waverly ends up in trouble, and punches Lucado for lying to them. (Who cheered at that?) The duo and their goons catch the sisters and in a twist, it seems the case belonged to an Earp, one who almost broke the curse killing 70 of the 77 revenants. Waverly confesses to Wynonna she keeps having memory lapses but when their capturers return we all are screaming with Wynonna when to torture the combination for the case out of Waverly she ends up losing a hand. This bad guy, no surprise, is a demon with a nasty looking bone dagger which is a bit like Wolverine's. Wynonna gets them out of there and Doc finally gets the message to come help. (Watch out for the line when they use Siri to call him).
Rosita is left with Dolls but he soon gets hold of a syringe full of the antidote but looks more demon than ever. This happens just as our gang arrive back, and Waverly has two hands again!! Doc thinks Wynonna was mistaken and they used some power of suggestion on her. Of course, razor hand demon still isn’t dead but Dolls escapes the basement in time to breath fire, yes fire, on the demon before peacemaker puts him down. Dolls soon comes back and no wonder he needs some water.
But what of the creepy black sisters you may ask, well Mercedes is walking around and it seems the other sister has also become possessed but no, they are simply just using their faces. Very gross and in a turn of events it seems they want to nurture the perverted soul of their brother.
Back at the homestead Wynonna confronts Waverly about the hand growing back, Gooverly takes over and in a surprising turn the goo, demon or whatever has hold on Waverly, finds fighting her boring and jumps into Wynonna who clearly has more fun…
So, what were the best moments?
The lines are also coming thick and fast which was your favourite?
