Welcome back Foster fans. For those of you unfamiliar, my name is Jessica Lerner, and I will be doing the previews for The Fosters. I am a recent addition to the SpoilerTV team and have been doing the previews and reviews for solely Nashville. I’m super excited to be previewing The Fosters because it’s one of my favorite shows on air. There’s really not another family drama that tackles this diverse of topics from adoption and the foster care system to sexuality and gender issues. So without further ado, let’s get on with the show, metaphorically, of course.
“Exterminate Her” picks up the day after “Resist.” While Callie may have escaped Russell physically unharmed, Stef and Lena are not happy about the choices she continues to make. In an effort to get Callie to start thinking about her future, Stef and Lena prompt her to reach out to the professor from last season who liked Callie’s senior project, leading Callie to apply to audit art classes. This storyline seems to be interesting in several aspects and offers boundless opportunities for Callie’s future. For the longest time, Callie has made mistake after mistake, and it’s nice to finally see her putting herself and her future first. Maia Mitchell kills in this episode, delivering a heartbreaking performance when appropriate while also some lighter moments during the episode’s two Brallie scenes. After all of the chaos of last week’s episode, it seems like Stef’s words have finally sunk in. I can’t wait to see what this season has in store for Callie because it seems like she’s finally getting her life on track, and I, for one, could not be happier. After everything she's been through in the past four seasons, she definitely deserves some happiness and a reprieve from all of the drama.
Elsewhere, Jesus decides he wants to do his senior project alone. This, of course, is problematic for several reasons; one of which being Jesus may not be a senior next year. While Jesus feels the need to prove he can do something by himself, the reality is that the tree house can't get built without Mariana. Drew has made it perfectly clear that the school is not going to fund the project without her. Due to the nature of this situation, two characters find themselves on opposite sides of an argument as both have a different idea about what’s best for Jesus. They both care for Jesus deeply, but they just have different opinions on how to handle the situation. While each side has merit, tensions are definitely high, especially when one character crosses the proverbial line. It's an interesting dynamic to watch unfold because it really raises the question of where each character stands. Ultimately, every characters’ decisions will have consequences, including Jesus’ whose actions this episode will have some unintended consequences for him going forward.
Meanwhile, the privatization storyline takes an interesting turn, which I’m really excited to see how it plays out. I'm pretty biased with how things turn out, but I still look forward to see what happens because it tackles a prevalent issue in today's society. Brandon, once again, proves he’s rather clueless when it comes to anything besides music. In fact, I was shocked just how oblivious he was. And, the Adams-Fosters get new neighbors that ends up packing quite a punch in the last few minutes.
