The Bold Type - O Hell No - Advance Preview: My New Favorite Show

"I can't afford to fail."

O Hell No

For those of you who read my first preview, you know I was on the fence about some stuff even though I thoroughly enjoyed the Pilot, and let me tell you, all of my fears have gone with the wind. This is looking like it's gonna be my new favorite guilty pleasure, and the best thing is, it's not that guilty, it has a lot of things to offer beyond just the fun, and those are the shows I appreciate more these days when being shallow is just so easy.

The second hour of the double premiere is fun, courageous, and it attacks common misperceptions with fierce freshness (if that's a possibility). From showing us the little tasks they must endure for the magazine, to seeing the beautiful friendship between these awesome women strengthen, even when they disagree. This show is about women, about love and about friendship overall, and it knows how to be hilarious.

This episode focuses on Jane's lack of sexual experience, not that she's a virgin, but she's clearly way behind on her co-workers, and she's given some fun homework. Once again, the articles become more of a personal search than just a professional one, and I'm sure this will continue to be the case every week, but it's not something I'm against.

Luckily, Sutton's story gets a little more for us to work with and actually like her, even if it's not totally groundbreaking. And Richard continues to surprise us by not being the douchebag he kinda looks like. The stories of both Kat and Jane continue to unfold as expected, though the ride is still a lot of fun to watch, and Aisha Dee continues to shine as Kat by being amazing even when challenged, especially by Adena and her own self-perceived persona.

Ryan from Pinstripe plays a big role here, and even more so in the next couple of episodes, and his interactions with Jane are hilarious and cute at the same time. The use of the music is stunning and absolutely perfect. And I have to say I'm also beginning to appreciate what Alex brings to the table, as a good friend, and a sound voice, that also provides some perspective, being one of the very few guys working at Scarlet. I can't wait to see what's next for the three women. How about you?

Some quotes:
"I appreciate you not being racist in your fantasy, but it's just a fantasy."
"Do not ruin puppies for me."
"Did you say drink?"

Catch the official two hour premiere of The Bold Type at 9/8c on July 11th.
