This week on Shadowhunters, Clary and Jace go to Lake Lynn to search for a cabin where Valentine might be hiding out. Their trip doesn’t go as planned when Clary ingests some of the water which makes her hallucinate. Izzy goes looking for them and they are able to snap her out of it. They were right about the cabin. Sebastian tells his father what happened to him after being banished to Edom. He almost sends him there as well but changes his mind at the last minute. Clary, Jace and Izzy just miss them. Meanwhile, Simon and Maia go to Simon’s house to celebrate Yom Kippur. It seems to snap him out of the funk he’s been in after the break up with Clary and last week’s incidents. Robert arrives at the Institute to aid Alec, which doesn’t go so well. Clary figures out that her brother is still alive.
Don’t do it: Earlier this season I was so happy because I thought the writers were going to skip over Simon and Maia’s relationship. Now, however, it seems that I was mistaken. It hasn’t happened yet, so I still have hope but it seems likely at this point. Aside from the fact that I wasn’t a fan of their relationship in the books because that was not handled well at all, Simon really shouldn’t be jumping into a new relationship right after he and Clary broke up. Why can’t a guy and girl ever just stay friends on TV?
Any day now: Clary and Jace do seem to grow closer each week. I think we’re officially past the sibling vibes. It’s only a matter of time before they start to realize they have feelings for each other, then they’ll resist it for a few episodes, and get together. It was interesting to see how Jace got through to Clary this week. I’m not sure if it was his special power that did it or if it was just their connection but it worked. Though, Clary, like Simon, should not be jumping into another relationship just yet.
Please leave: I know he’s trying, and that at some point I referred to him as the better parent, but I really don’t like Robert. I get that he’s making an effort with his kids but I get the feeling that they’re not sure how to act around him. It’s tough being in between your parents, they probably feel like they have to choose sides. I assume that Alec is on his mother’s side (understandably) but I think it’ll be more difficult for Izzy and Max. He should be reassuring them rather than keeping things strictly professional. And I can’t believe he compared his affair to Alec’s relationship with Magnus.
Best quotes: Maia: “Anybody alive in her? Or anybody dead in here?”
Grandma: “So, I’m guessing you’re not Jewish?” Maia: “No, but I’ll convert if it means more Kugel.” Grandma: “I like her.”
That’s it for this week. Check in again next week for an all-new review and let me know in the comments what you thought of this week’s episode.
