A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great, memorable scenes that we've seen in past seven days on TV.
KILLJOYS, "A Skinner, Darkly", July 7, 2017, Actors: Hannah John-Kamen, Aaron Ashmore, Luke Macfarlane, The Scene: Johnny reunites with the team
Justyna: It was another great episode of the show and I continue to really enjoy the series. In case you haven't checked it out yet, I highly recommend it. It's an action-packed, sci-fi story but with a lot of heart and fantastic character interactions. There were several scenes that stood out for me in the episode, but as the relationship between John and Dutch remains my favorite thing about "Killjoys" I wanted to highlight Johnny's return to the team the most. I ended up enjoying his adventure away far more than I expected last season but I'm still glad to have the main trio reunited. Johnny's scenes with Clara/Ollie, especially the one where they realize who she really is and the moment when they say goodbye, were beautifully done and quite emotional. Clara's story was very well written and to see her finding a home of her own, with a family of sorts, was a great place to leave her for the time being. I do expect her (and the other Hackmods) back just in time for the final fight near the end of the season. But for now, Johnny's back with Dutch and D'Avin and I'm excited to see what's next for the team. I loved the brief embrace between Johnny and Dutch and Lucy's line when she admits how much she missed her favorite crew member. "If ships could cry, I would have rusted, John." Looking at the plasma map and the reveal at the very end of the hour there's a lot of challenges ahead for these Killjoys but this reunion was definitely a step in the right direction. Kudos to cast & crew, I can't wait to see the next episode already!
ORPHAN BLACK, "Ease for Idle Millionaires", July 8, 2017, Actors: Tatiana Maslany, Évelyne Brochu and more, The Scenes: The dinner party at P.T.'s & Delphine reminds Cosima of her promise
Nirat: Throughout everything, Delphine has always had Cosima’s best interests at heart, this scene just reiterated that even more. To see how much love Delphine has for Cosima (and how much love is shared between the two of them) was heartwarming. They way the flashback influenced the present scene was utterly stunning, the direction, flawless editing and familiar score created one of the most romantic scenes the show has given us. Tatiana Maslany and Evelyne Brochu have always shared wonderful scenes together, with this one now becoming one of my favorites. I particularly admired how this moment also tied to the ending whereby Cosima states to PT Westmoreland that even though he gave her life, he would never take away her humanity. There's something beautifully defiant in that act alone. Truly remarkable work from Tatiana Maslany, as usual.
DJRiter: The bizarre dinner party at P.T.'s where Cosima opens up about her parents. How brilliant has Tatiana Maslany been this season, and for me so far, her Cosima has been her strongest portrayal.
STILL STAR-CROSSED, "Pluck Out the Heart of My Mystery", July 8, 2017, Actors: Lashana Lynch, Wade Briggs, The Scene: Rosaline tells Benvolio the truth about her parents' death
Marko: Lashana Lynch once again proved she is a force to be reckoned with. Not even the move to Saturday could prevent her from bringing all the feels. Her performance was deeply sincere and deep as she explained how the stupid feud between the families is and how much it ruined her life.
THE MIST, "Show and Tell", July 6, 2017, Actors: Frances Conroy and more
The Scene: Nathalie heads out into The Mist
Milo: Nathalie heads out into The Mist with the man with the Moth tattoo on his back, where he grows wings as a result of the Mist exposure. This was a haunting, shocking moment that probably stands up there as my favorite from the series to date, really well executed.
WYNONNA EARP, "Let's Pretend We're Strangers", July 7, 2017, Actors: Melanie Scrofano, Kate Drummond
The Scenes: Lucado's demon possession & Wynonna discovers she's pregnant
Samantha: Wynonna discovers she's pregnant.
Donna: Lucado's demon possession and head exploding.
ZOO, "Diaspora", July 6, 2017, Actors: Kristen Connolly, Billy Burke
The Scene: Mitch and Jamie reunite
Klutzy girl: Mitch and Jamie reunite after ten years apart. It's a long time coming and to see them interacting again was amazing.
