Following the surprise ending from the prior episode, the crew is in a scramble to determine what has happened to Six. Did he survive whatever happened to the mining facility? That’s a question that haunts the crew, especially Five, as they are desperate for anything that can give them some semblance of hope. It doesn’t take them long to track down some answers, however, it’s not exactly what they were hoping for. Having the answer is only the start of the chaos that comes next. Every part of this episode is a challenge for the characters and when one of their own is in trouble it impacts them all. It is one big stressful moment after another as they scramble to help one of their own. There are also a lot of somewhat confusing scenes that make way more sense once you've seen the entire episode.
In the midst of all of this, they also have to deal with a medical emergency and a surprising foe. Thankfully for them, they get an unexpected assist from Anders who proves that he has developed a bit of a soft spot for this crew. His appearance does provide an interesting opportunity to dive into Six’s past via flashbacks and new information regarding Kal is revealed. The information revealed isn’t all that shocking, but it is entirely unexpected and could have big implications down the road. This episode is all about Six and trying to determine what has happened to him, therefore, there isn’t any time to see what Ryo is up to. This is strictly a Raza crew episode with some interesting new characters introduced.
Most shows tend to do a low key episode after a big high concept episode, but not Dark Matter. They went all in and didn’t pull any punches. The emotions are high and the performances are as strong as always. While not much can be said about the specifics it is safe to say that they will provide an answer regarding Six’s fate. Did he survive whatever horrible event took place at the mining compound? You’ll have to watch to find out, but you can expect to see Roger Cross in the flashbacks at the very least and his performances are exceptional. Also look out for a possible hint at another big reveal that could be coming regarding another character and someone else on the ship may know more than they are letting on. And be prepared for a very ominous ending that is deeply concerning leaving the whole crew in a precarious position.
Make sure to tune in on Friday at 9/8c on Syfy in the US and Space in Canada to learn Six’s ultimate fate.
Here are some quotes to tide you over:
“Nothing ever goes as planned and every time I think we’re turning a corner something bad happens and I’m tired of it.”
“We can’t leave here without finding out if he’s alive or dead.”
“You know, when we first remembered our pasts I thought we were beyond redemption, but I’m starting to realize it’s the rest of the universe that’s screwed up.”
“Do you really want to do this to them?”
“Almost like he was trying to protect me.”
