21:45 - Misfits - Dave Foley & Charlie Saxton Join Freeform Pilot as Series Regulars

Dave Foley (NewsRadio) and Charlie Saxton (Hung) are set as series regulars in the Freeform pilot Misfits, a supernatural drama from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire.

Written by Diane Ruggiero-Wright (iZombie) inspired by the British series, Misfits revolves around a group of young offenders in a community service program who develop supernatural powers after being hit by a mysterious electrical storm.

Foley will play Bernie, a disheveled driver (think Uber), he’s clumsy, dorky and wearing clothes from 1990. Everything about this guy screams “desperate.” Saxton will play Simon. Intelligent and odd, Simon makes his way through life ignored by the world at large. Alternately tormented and shunned by his roommates, Simon has just as much trouble connecting with the other misfits he meets at community service. Foley and Saxton join previously announced cast Ashleigh LaThrop, Tre Hall, Allie MacDonald and Jake Cannavale.

02:45 - Heathers - Selma Blair to Recur on Paramount Network's Anthology Dramedy

Selma Blair has booked a recurring role in the hourlong dark dramedy set to air on the upcoming Paramount Network in 2018.

Heathers is an anthology based on the 1998 Christian Slater-Winona Ryder cult movie of the same name. It was scheduled to debut in the fall on TV Land is now expected to launch in the first quarter of 2018 on Paramount Network (which is being rebranded from Spike TV in January). Heathers went through the development and pilot process as a half-hour comedy but shifted to an hourlong dramedy after the final cut clocked in at more than 40 minutes. It was slated to be TV Land's first hourlong entry.

The 10-episode series is set in the present day and features a new set of popular-yet-evil Heathers — only this time the outcasts have become high school royalty. Heather McNamara (originally played by Lisanne Falk) will be portrayed by Jasmine Mathews; Heather Duke (Shannen Doherty in the film) is a male who identifies as gender-queer whose real name is Heath (Brendan Scannell); and Heather Chandler (originally Kim Walker) has a body like Martha Dumptruck and will be played by Melanie Field. Playground Announces Little Women Cast for BBC and MASTERPIECE on PBS

Dame Angela Lansbury and Michael Gambon star with BAFTA Award-winner Emily Watson as beloved Marmee; Maya Hawke, Willa Fitzgerald, Annes Elwy and Kathryn Newton to play iconic March sisters alongside Jonah Hauer-King as Laurie Laurence.

Golden Globe® and BAFTA Award-winning drama producer Playground has announced the cast for the upcoming adaptation of Little Women for BBC One and MASTERPIECE on PBS. Based on the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott, this three-part adaptation from the award-winning creator of Call the Midwife Heidi Thomas (Cranford, Upstairs Downstairs) will be directed by Vanessa Caswill (Thirteen, My Mad Fat Diary) and starts principal photography this month in Ireland.

BAFTA Award-winner Emily Watson (The Theory of Everything, Genius) is set to play Marmee, the iconic matriarch of the March family. The March sisters will be played by an ensemble of four exciting young actresses – newcomer Maya Hawke takes the role of willful and adventurous Jo, Willa Fitzgerald (Scream: The TV Series, Misfortune) will play the eldest daughter Meg, Annes Elwy (Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams) will play Beth, and Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies, Halt and Catch Fire) takes the role of the youngest sister Amy.

With the help of their mother Marmee, while their father is away at war, the girls navigate what it means to be a young woman: from gender roles to sibling rivalry, first love, loss and marriage.

Little Women has been commissioned by Piers Wenger and Charlotte Moore at the BBC, and will be produced by Playground (Wolf Hall, Howards End) for BBC One. The series is a co-production with MASTERPIECE on PBS. The producer is Susie Liggat. Executive producers are Colin Callender and Sophie Gardiner for Playground, Heidi Thomas, Lucy Richer for the BBC and Rebecca Eaton for MASTERPIECE.

SUNDANCE TV AND BBC ONE ANNOUNCE KEY CASTING FOR NEW SIX-PART DRAMA “THE SPLIT”

Production starts in the UK this month on the female-centric series being helmed by powerhouse women including writer Abi Morgan, producer Jane Featherstone and director Jessica Hobbs

London, New York – Wednesday 28th June 2017: All-new drama The Split begins production in the UK next week with Nicola Walker (River, Last Tango in Halifax) leading the acclaimed ensemble cast alongside Meera Syal (Goodness Gracious Me), Stephen Mangan (Episodes), Fiona Button (Lip Service), Deborah Findlay (Leaving), Annabel Scholey (Being Human), Barry Atsma (Hector and the Search for Happiness) and Stephen Tompkinson (DCI Banks). The original drama, with a female-led cast and crew, is from BAFTA and Primetime Emmy award-winning writer Abi Morgan (River, Suffragette, The Iron Lady, The Hour) and BAFTA-winning Executive Producer Jane Featherstone (Broadchurch, Humans, River). The six-part series is the first new original production from Featherstone’s indie Sister Pictures for BBC One, co-produced with SundanceTV, and is directed by Jessica Hobbs (Broadchurch, Apple Tree Yard, The Slap) and produced by Lucy Dyke (Black Mirror, Ripper Street). It shoots on location in London.

The Split is an authentic, layered and witty exploration of modern marriage and the legacy of divorce through the lens of the Defoe’s – a family of female lawyers at the heart of London’s fast-paced and emotionally-charged divorce circuit.

Esteemed divorce lawyer Hannah (Nicola Walker) quits the family firm when her mother Ruth (Deborah Findlay), formidable personally and professionally, refuses her promotion. Landing at a rival firm alongside old flame Christie (Barry Atsma), Hannah navigates scandalous affairs, big-figure settlements and fraught relationship battles – coming head-to-head with Ruth and impulsive sister Nina (Annabel Scholey) in the bitter divorce of Goldie (Meera Syal) and multi-millionaire husband Davey (Stephen Tompkinson). Meanwhile, the marriage of younger sister Rose (Fiona Button) looms on the horizon.

When their estranged father returns after 30 years the sisters are forced to confront their past. Facing the reality of her dad’s abandonment, and reconnecting with ‘the one who got away’ Christie, Hannah begins to question her relationships with the men in her life – including her seemingly contented marriage to the smart and affable Nathan (Stephen Mangan).

On being cast as Hannah Defoe, Nicola Walker says, “I’m delighted to be joining the Defoe family and walking in Hannah’s shoes as she picks her way through other people’s marriages and relationships, all the while questioning her own.”

17:15 - Foundation - David Goyer and Josh Friedman Developing Isaac Asimov's Trilogy with Skydance Television

EXCLUSIVE: The Isaac Asimov science fiction trilogy Foundation heavily informed Star Wars and many other sci-fi films and TV series, but for decades it has confounded Hollywood attempts at a straight adaptation. I’m hearing that Skydance, David S. Goyer and Josh Friedman are going to try to crack it. Skydance Television is closing a deal with the Asimov estate to try turning Foundation into a sprawling TV series.

Originally published as a short story series in Astounding Magazine in 1942, Asimov’s Foundation is the complex saga of humans scattered on planets throughout the galaxy, all living under the rule of the Galactic Empire. The protagonist is a psycho-historian who has an ability to read the future and foresees the empire’s imminent collapse. He sets out to save the knowledge of mankind from being wiped out. Asimov’s trilogy has been tried numerous times as a feature film at Fox, Warner Bros (with Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne, the guys who green lit The Lord of the Rings), and then at Sony with Independence Day director Roland Emmerich. Many top sci-fi writers have done scripts. Most recently, HBO tried a series with Emmerich and Interstellar cowriter and Westworld exec producer Jonathan Nolan.

17:15 - Everything Sucks! - 1990's Coming-Of-Age Half-Hour Dramedy Ordered to Series by Netflix

Netflix, the world's leading internet TV network, has ordered ten episodes of EVERYTHING SUCKS! A quirky, funny coming of age story that follows two groups of high school misfits, Everything Sucks! follows an A/V club and a Drama club who collide in 1996 Oregon. The series stars Peyton KENNEDY (American Fable, The Captive) and Jahi Winston (The New Edition Story) as students Kate Messner and Luke O'Neil, with Patch Darragh (Sully, Boardwalk Empire) and Claudine Nako (Grimm) as their respective parents. The series also features Sydney Sweeney ("Emaline"), Elijah Stevenson ("Oliver"), Quinn Liebling ("Tyler") and Rio Mangini ("McQuaid").

The 10-episode, half-hour dramedy is created by Ben York Jones (Like Crazy, Newness) and Michael Mohan (Save the Date, Pink Grapefruit), who will both serve as executive producers. Mohan will also serve as director for the bulk of the series, with Ry Russo-Young directing episodes as well. Jeff Pinkner (Lost, Fringe), Scott Rosenberg (October Road, Life on Mars), Josh Appelbaum (Alias, October Road) and André Nemec (Alias, October Road) from Midnight Radio will also serve as executive producers. Everything Sucks! is a Netflix production and will premiere in 2018.

Said Jones and Mohan, "Some of our favorite shows of all time -- The Wonder Years, Happy Days, That 70s Show, Freaks and Geeks -- looked back at bygone eras with 20 years of hindsight. We think this is a great time to take a look back at high school and relive the fashion, music, and attitudes of the mid-'90's the way we remember it. Not sensationalized, not watered down; but desperate, heartfelt, awkward, and exciting."

"We're looking forward to spending some time back in the '90s," said Cindy Holland, Vice President, Original Content for Netflix. "Whether you were in A/V, drama, sports or band, we think everyone will find something to relate to in this coming of age story about the one thing that sucks above everything else -- high school."
