Favorite character: I’ve missed Rebekah. Who would’ve thought that when we met the Original family on Vampire Diaries, that Rebekah would turn out to be the sensible one. She spent the entire episode trying to keep the peace. Without her, Marcel and Klaus’ peace would have ended this week. We never saw her response to Freya’s suggestion of sacrificing Marcel. I don’t doubt that when it comes to that, she’ll try to find another way. As long as it doesn’t include sacrificing herself. I have to admit that Claire suddenly being back again has me a bit worried that it’s only to say goodbye to the character.
A little underwhelming: Am I the only one who was a bit disappointed by what was behind the red door? We’ve already seen the Original family kill people more times than we can count, this wasn’t all that much different. I actually expected Hayley to come upon the memory of Elijah killing Tatia. Now that would’ve been more shocking, to see him kill someone he was close to. But the actual slaughter wasn’t that different from what we’ve seen before. I guess perhaps it was more about his mindset during this flashback than the act.
Awkward: Which brings me to my next point. Seeing Elijah like this clearly affected Hayley. Her first instinct was to protectively strengthen her grip on Hope. Elijah has been going darker and darker for a while but Hayley has always supported him. But everyone has their limits. This is either going to be the turning point for Elijah or it’ll just push him deeper into the darkness.
Called it! I knew we’d see Davina again before the end of the season. There was no point in involving Davina in the Hollow storyline for only one episode. I have to admit, this is a pretty genius move from the Hollow. After the events that lead to Davina’s death, Kol is not about to let her slip through his fingers again. He still carries the guilt of being the one that killed her. He’ll do whatever it takes to keep her alive. The question is, when he’s faced with the choice between his family and Davina, who will he choose?
Innocence has left the building: Remember how I said I wanted Hope’s innocence to stay intact for as long as possible? I think that ship has officially sailed. She saw her mother’s life in danger, heard her screams and then saw her uncle covered in blood. Her reaction to Elijah broke my heart. Poor kid is going to have nightmares for weeks. Also, what was with Freya putting Hope in the locket? Hayley and Klaus would’ve been furious. I’m guessing the events of this week will heavily impact the decision to send Hope away to Alaric’s school.
Best quotes: Kol: “Lethal thorns, resurrected witches… what could possibly go wrong?”
Rebekah: “That’s a peculiar place for a nap.”
Rebekah: “Children, please use your words.”
