On the finale of The Originals, the Original siblings agree to Vincent’s plan of splitting up forever to save Hope’s life. This means they can never see each other or Hope again. Kol returns for the spell. Elijah and Hayley end things. After the spell, Elijah asks Marcel to compel him to forget everything. At the end of the episode, we see him playing the piano in France with Klaus watching him in the background. Rebekah goes to New York where she reunites with Marcel. Kol goes back to Davina and plans to propose. Hayley takes Hope to Mystic Falls so that she can go to Alaric’s school (where the hell did all those witch children come from?). Freya stays behind in New Orleans to find a solution. Saddest moment: I really thought they’d keep Klaus and Hope together. Especially since he just spent 5 years away from her. If they do a time jump of 10 years, he’ll have missed her entire childhood. I’m kind of mad at the writers that they’re putting him through this again. Sure, they have Skype these days but that doesn’t really cut it. I am glad that Hayley trusted him enough to tell him the truth. Vincent didn’t give Klaus enough credit. When it comes to his daughter, he’ll pretty much do anything. At least now he got to say goodbye.
Wasted potential: I really didn’t expect that Freya would be ready to give up everything for Hope. It’s not until this week that I truly realized that she does love Hope and feels a connection to her. It’s a shame we never got to see their relationship develop. I had really hoped to see them bond over magic. I’m glad Kol showed up in the end. I think Freya would’ve been miserable as a vampire. Maybe Freya will visit Mystic Falls during the time jump.
Huh? So I’ve spent all season trying to figure out who would die. No one did. Awkward. Honestly, the entire resolution of the Hollow problem was awfully quick in this episode. I know actually getting rid of her won’t be until next season and I get that this episode focused more on the relationships but I expected just a tiny bit more action for a season finale. The writers do seem to have gotten rid of Sofya off screen, which is weird. I guess since there was a good chance that this would be the series finale they may have rushed a few things.
Predictions: So it’s fairly certain that next season will start with another time jump, probably one of 10 years this time so that Hope will be in her late teens. I assume she and Hayley will still be in Mystic Falls. As for everyone else, that’s less sure. I doubt Rebekah and Marcel will have been able to make it last. There’s just so much baggage there, despite being away from her other family members. Same goes for Kol and Davina. In 10, the subject of her aging while he doesn’t will have come up. And unlike Freya, I doubt she’d ever give up magic. I expect that Freya, Vincent, and Josh will still be in New Orleans. I hope they all find happiness (even Josh with his invisible boyfriend). Klaus predicted that he’d fall back into old habits, but I would be so proud if he managed to resist for Hope. He’s grown a lot and I have faith that he can do it (I hope the writers do too). As for Elijah, he’s the biggest question mark. We know very little of his new life, he seemed happy but how long until he becomes a ripper again? I can’t believe we’ll have to wait almost a year for these answers.
Rebekah: “I hope you didn’t come all this way because your mercenary girlfriend dumped you. I don’t care to be someone’s second best.”
