The Handmaid's Tale - Night - Advance Preview

The Handmaid’s Tale “Night” directed by Kari Skogland with the teleplay by Bruce Miller. It’s a terrific episode to finish off the first season. I’m curious to see where they will go in the second season. Elisabeth Moss (June/Offred) delivers yet another knock out performance to close out just a brilliant season episode after episode.

The episode begins with another flashback to June arriving in the Red Centre. We find out more about that red earring. There is a flashback to June and Luke (O-T Fagbenle).

Serena Joy (Yvonne Stahovski) loses her temper again. Twice. The wives have more power than we’ve thought. Serena Joy and Fred (Joseph Fiennes) have a frank discussion. We learn more about punishment in Gilead. The women and men have more in common than we’ve thought.

Moira (Samira Wiley) finds something to laugh about. June and Nick (Max Minghella) share a moment. June has not one but two moments with Rita (Amanda Brugel) in the episode. Serena Joy does something that is simultaneously kind and unbearably cruel.

Pryce (Robert Curtis Brown) and Waterford have a difference of opinion. Offglen (Tattiawna Jones) does something very surprising. Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) will be sad, protective, and angry all in the space of 2 minutes.

Like every other episode in the series, this episode is beautifully shot, written, and acted. It does end on a cliffhanger, so I’m dying for season two already, but if the show hadn’t gotten a season two, the novel could easily have answered the questions we’re left with. In fact, I’m very curious to see what they do in season two! This episode is available on HULU June 14 – you are not going to want to miss it!

And just a few dialogue teases to finish off.

A parade of sluts.
I don’t think I can.
You’re on my list.
Go to your room.
I’m sorry, Aunt Lydia.
I helped write it.
She’s a smart girl.
You’re deranged.
You do that so well.
I want to apologize.
Three bells. A death knell.
