Stitchers finally makes its grand return after a long hiatus which included a tense period of uncertainty when the future of the show was in question. Thanks to a very vocal fanbase and an incredibly creative production team as well as an exceptional cast, the show earned a third season. It was a well-deserved renewal and if this return episode is any indication of what is to come then it’s clear the creative team doesn’t plan to take this season for granted. They delivered a dynamic and emotional episode with high stakes coupled with some big surprises and shocks. This was the perfect way to bring this series back and an excellent way to launch back into all the high stakes drama that ended last season.
The prior season ended on a rather massive cliffhanger, however, the resolution to that cliffhanger was always sort of a given. Promos for the season have more or less given away Kirsten’s fate, but they do not reveal a ton of other major things that happen including the clever and heartbreaking way that they rescue her. Each character has some big defining moment happen to them and even the Stitchers program undergoes some big changes. This is an intense rollercoaster ride of an episode that will keep the audience guessing what is going to come next. It is character defining and sets up the promise of a lot of big events to come. Also, characters like Blair and Ivy are still lurking around to complicate things. Ivy, however, may prove to be an asset if they can find some way to move past the things she did last season. She proves to be helpful especially at the onset of the hour.
Many figured that the new season would pick up right where the last one ended, but it doesn’t. There is a time jump, but it is only a mere three days. However, a lot has happened in those three days which prompts an exhilarating and heartbreaking first act. The intensity level remains high throughout as the characters encounter one precarious situation after another. The case of the week is very personal for two of the characters and puts another in a life or death situation. This episode covers everything from happy reunions to heartbreaking tragedy and everything in between. The ending revolves around two of the characters dealing with some leftover issues from last season and in the process, they discover something that will certainly send them scrambling for answers in the coming weeks.
This is only the tiniest insight into this jam-packed episode. So much happens and it has positioned the show to have perhaps its best season yet. The cast is back and far exceeding high expectations with hard hitting performances. The story is on point and powerful but maintains the lighter sarcastic side that fans have loved from the start. Who knows what is ahead, but the stage is set for some brilliant stories to be told. Hold on, because this season of Stitchers looks like it’s going to be one intense ride.
Do not miss the return of Stitchers on Monday, June 5th at 9/8c on Freeform.
