Shadowhunters is coming back for the second half of it's second season and I could not be more excited! As a refresher, in the season 2A finale, a huge fight broke out between our gang and Valentine over the Soul Sword that ended with Valentine being captured, Simon finding out that the sun doesn't hurt him, and Jace learning more about his special abilities. The premiere has a ton going on, so let's jump into the preview!
Overall, this episode is great and covers a lot of ground. Beginning with Valentine, he has been captured and is getting fully tortured as the Clave tries to figure out where the Mortal Cup is. It was a nice change of pace to see Valentine as the one not in control as I feel like for the majority of the series he has been pretty powerful and ruthless. The writers and actors in these scenes did this flip well in the premiere and got me excited for a potential final showdown between the two factions down the road. Another cool part of the episode is Izzy's withdrawal, which leads to a dramatic scene with Raphael and the introduction of Sebastian, which I am so excited about because he is easily one of my favorite characters in the book. Will Tudor's first appearance is solid and I'm feeling positive about his portrayal moving forward.
Other storylines include the Downworld picking up the pieces of their lives after the events of the 2A finale, Simon adjusting to his newfound powers, and Magnus getting involved in some dangerous summoning. On the whole, it's a really strong episode, although I wish the writers hadn't tried to cover so much in one episode. I understand it's the premiere and there was a lot of fall out from the 2A finale to deal with, but I just wanted more out of each storyline. At the same time, I suppose they did a good job of getting me intrigued and hooked!
