This week on the Originals, the Original family did their best to save Elijah. Klaus even tried to sacrifice himself to do so. Freya ended up trapping Elijah’s soul in the pendant that once held Finn, but it shattered in the process meaning the same might have happened to Elijah’s mind. Marcel managed to get the Hollow out of Sofya but it’s not clear how much damage has been done to her mind. Vincent goes to Marcel to get his book back, which cannot be a good sign. The Hollow manages to return to her own body.
Favorite character: This episode once again showcased what Klaus would do for his family. It was very reminiscent of when he tried to take Rebekah’s place in Esther’s spell in season 2. He was willing to risk dying to save his brother. I really liked the scene he shared with Vincent before the ritual. Vincent mentioned the stories he’d heard about Klaus. And while we’ve seen Klaus do a lot of bad stuff, we’ve also seen an entirely different side of him. A caring brother and father. We’ve seen him struggle to keep that dark side of him in check, but he’s really trying for Hope. While I’ve never been a fan of Klaus and Cami together, that quote from Vincent was still very important. You could tell that it meant a lot to Klaus and had it come from anyone else, he probably wouldn’t have believed them. But Vincent is one of the few people who has absolutely no ulterior motive for telling him this.
Wasted efforts: With Elijah’s survival uncertain, Hayley tried to explain things as best as she could to Hope. They’ve all been trying to protect her innocence but Hope has already seen enough to know something is going on. I have a feeling she’ll be confronted with New Orleans’ dark side very soon, especially since the Hollow seems to be after her.
Favorite scene: I loved seeing Hope and Keelin playing games. It was extremely refreshing considering how dark most of this show is. We haven’t really seen Keelin interact with any of the other Originals, but I think that’s to be expected. She probably hasn’t been around a family in a while. Since Keelin is the last of her bloodline, that means she has no family left. She doesn’t seem very anxious to get back to any friends either so I guess she’s mostly been on her own. Hope, on the other hand, is surrounded by family that she barely knows and has had very little contact with anyone who isn’t related to her. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hope was the one who reached out first. Shy as she may be, curiosity probably got the better of her. Perhaps she sensed Keelin’s werewolf side, in which case, I wonder how long it’ll be before she starts asking questions about her own werewolf side.
What’s next: So there will be a lot of Elijah next week, as we can see from the promo. Daniel is even directing the episode. I just hope we don’t spend most of the episode in his head (and not just because that would make writing a review much more difficult). The synopsis for next week mentions Marcel facing someone he’s not prepared to face. I have absolutely no idea who this could be. Anyone who is currently on the show would be out because why wouldn’t he be prepared to face them. It might be Rebekah, since she’s back next week but he’s already seen her earlier this season. That leaves Davina, who is a likely possibility and they do have a lot to discuss, but as I said with Rebekah, technically he’s already seen her as well. But perhaps the Hollow will appear as someone from his past like Cami or even his father. Marcel never really got closure when it comes to his issues regarding his father. I’m probably way off base here but you never know.
Best quotes: Klaus: “Your girlfriend seems nice, for what it’s worth.”
Vincent: “Here you are, finally living up to the potential Cami saw in you. She would’ve been proud.”
That’s it for this week. Check in again next week for an all-new review and let me know in the comments what you thought of this week’s episode. Please be respectful in the comments, any unnecessary rudeness isn't welcome.
