The Handmaid’s Tale “Jezebel’s” is already episode 8 with a teleplay by Kira Snyder and directed by Kate Dennis, whose other credits include Rescue Me, Secrets & Lies, Offspring, and Preacher. Snyder’s other credits include Eureka, Alphas, and The 100. Once again, this episode features flashbacks to another character’s past that help to shed light on both Gilead and the character’s motivations.

As we listen to Offred’s (Elisabeth Moss) internal monologue it becomes clear that she is completely self-aware. As the episode unfolds, we start to see her change in fundamental ways. Offred runs into an old friend in an unexpected place.

The character we learn about is Nick (Max Minghella). He’s gotten to where he is through a series of misfortunes and coffee with a “friend” (Robert Curtis Brown) that changed his life. We also get a glimpse of Nick’s other duties – outside of driving for the Commander (Joseph Fiennes).

Both the Commander and Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski) have surprises for Offred. The Commander actually has more than one. The Commander plays a more dangerous game than scrabble. Serena Joy visits her mother, and we get an idea of how prescribed even the wives lives are. Serena Joy’s gift is pretty much perfect.

We learn how the “ceremony” evolved. The show has another perfect music selection with “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane. Look for another brilliant performance from Elisabeth Moss.

And no preview would be complete without some dialogue teases:

We’ve got quite a collection.
Doesn’t that feel nice.
You’re a good soul, Nick.
I wish this story was different.
And I become less faithful.
No one’s above the law.
I will not be that girl in the box.
I don’t have any choice.
Everyone’s human.
It’s better not to form attachments.
Tonight you aren’t you.
Idle hands are the Devil’s workshop.
No wonder there are no children.
There’s much more excitement to come.
Act may not be the best name – from a branding perspective.
We’re call the Sons of Jacob.
It’s date night!
