16 May 2017
RoseanneRoseanne is officially coming back to ABC in 2018.
ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey confirmed in a conference call with reporters Tuesday that the sitcom, originally broadcast on the Alphabet Network for nine seasons between 1988 and 1997, is being revived for midseason.
Original cast members Roseanne Barr (Roseanne), John Goodman (Dan), Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Michael Fishman (D.J.) and Lecy Goranson (Becky) will all return. Sarah Chalke, who played the character Becky in later seasons, will also appear in another role.
Roseanne Barr will executive produce, along with Sara Gilbert, Tom Werner, Bruce Helford, Whitney Cummings and Tony Hernandez. The series is from Carsey-Werner Television.
Dungey said: "We're rebooting Roseanne. The one thing that I will say is that it's planned for the midseason, but other than that, we're still at the early stages.
“The Conners’ joys and struggles are as relevant – and hilarious – today as they were then, and there’s really no one better to comment on our modern America than Roseanne."
In its original run, Roseanne won a Peabody Award and a Golden Globe for Best Television Series (Comedy or Musical). Barr and Goodman both won Golden Globes for Best Performance by an Actress and Actor, respectively. Barr also won an Emmy for Lead Actress, while Metcalf picked up two Supporting Actress Emmys.
