Jimmi Simpson Returning

Cary Elwes Won't Appear

EW has learned that Cary Elwes will not appear in Psych: The Movie. Elwes played master-thief Pierre Despereaux during the USA Network series’ original run.

“Here’s the funny thing: Cary was the one who leaked that the movie was happening while James [Roday] and I were writing,” Franks tells EW. “Yet, we couldn’t make it work with Cary of all people!”

Ralph Macchio Returning

When Psych: The Movie was announced last month, the network and studio promised that the holiday special would feature some returning guest stars — and EW can exclusively reveal one of them: Ralph Macchio is set to reprise one of his two roles on the show.

In the video below, the Outsiders actor announced he will return as Nick Conforth, the police academy officer who trained Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dulé Hill) in season 5. Conforth will play an important role in Shawn and Gus’ investigation into the Thin White Duke (Zachary Levi), a mysterious villain who targets one of their friends.

“He’s actually a big catalyst to get our investigation going. He holds one of the key pieces of information,” creator Steve Franks, who directed the movie, tells EW. “He actually functioned perfectly within the framework of the story and that was kind of the key [to bringing his character back].”

Jazmyn Simon Cast as New Love Interest for Gus

TVLine has learned exclusively that Ballers actress Jazmyn Simon — aka the real-life fiancée of Psych leading man Dulé Hill — is joining the two-hour reunion movie as a romantic interest for Hill’s lovelorn Gus.

Levi will play Thin White Duke, a ruthless, mysterious and dashing villain of the highest order.

The film, from Universal Cable Productions, hails from Psych creator Steve Frank and will feature the series’ core cast led by James Roday and Dulé Hill. Christmas is here early for Psych-os, fans of USA Network's long-running, quick-witted mystery series Psych!

On Monday, USA announced plans with Universal Cable Productions (UCP) for Psych: The Movie, featuring fake psychic detective Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and his best friend, Burton “Gus” Guster (Dulé Hill). The team will reunite once again, returning to USA for the holidays, when the two-hour special premieres this December. Psych creator Steve Franks, who co-wrote the movie with Roday, is directing.

Lassiter (Timothy Omundson), Juliet (Maggie Lawson), Henry (Corbin Bernsen), and Chief Vick (Kirsten Nelson) will also return for the movie, which picks up three years after the series finale. The ambitious friends -- along with some returning fan-favorite characters -- come together during the holidays after a mystery assailant targets one of their own. A comedic thrill-ride follows, as the wild and unpredictable Psych team pursues the bad guys, justice … and, of course, food!

"Psych is a beloved part of our USA family, and what better time to reunite with family than the holidays.” said Chris McCumber, President, Entertainment Networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “Steve and James have taken the unique brand of comedy that the series honed over eight seasons and packed it in to a two-hour movie that successfully rekindles one of the greatest bro-mances in television history.”

“Psych has an absolutely phenomenal and constantly refreshing fan base. We couldn’t be more thrilled to gift our Psych-os this holiday season with Psych: The Movie,” said Jeff Wachtel, Chief Content Officer, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, and President, Universal Cable Productions. “Steve, James, Dulé, and the rest of the gang are all returning for a delightful holiday movie that will not -- nay, dare not -- disappoint!”
