3rd December 2018 - Dylan O'Brien Cast as Bumblebee

After years of being unable to talk, Bumblebee will finally speak in his upcoming spinoff -- and IGN can exclusively reveal that Dylan O'Brien (Maze Runner, Teen Wolf) is the actor giving voice to the titular Autobot in the Transformers prequel!

"Since we were approaching this as an origin story, we felt that it was appropriate that you got to hear his voice," di Bonaventura said of the character who thus far has only been able to communicate using existing media. "That’s the simple logic that we employed. The longer term implication of that is different. But the short-term implication of that is, since we really are resetting the mythology, essentially, of who Bumblebee is. And so, that seemed to us to be the appropriate, to get the chance to hear what he sounds like."

13th July 2017 - Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny Join Cast

Paramount's Transformers spinoff Bumblebee is quickly rounding out its cast, adding a handful of young actors including Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny, who are in various stages of negotiations.

Bumblebee is the yellow and black striped Autobot that appears as one of the main characters in the Transformers film series. Plot details have not been released, but sources say the tale is a prequel to the main film series, focused on Bumblebee's life in the '80 (Paramount had no comment on the castings). It'll follow Steinfeld's character and a group of her friends as they team up to help Bumblebee. Christina Hodson (Shut In) wrote the script.

11th July 2017 - Jorge Lendeborg Jr. Cast as the Male Lead

Rising star Jorge Lendeborg Jr. is in talks for another big project: He'll play the young male lead in Paramount's Transformers spinoff Bumblebee.

Bumblebee is the yellow and black striped Autobot that appears as one of the main characters in the Transformers film series. Plot details have not been released, but Steinfeld will play a tomboy who also holds a job as a mechanic after school. Sources say the tale is a prequel to the main film series, focused on Bumblebee's life in an earlier decade. Christina Hodson (Shut In) wrote the script.

23rd June 2017 - Set in the 1980s

In an effort to expand the Transformers cinematic universe, the next movie in the franchise after this weekend’s The Last Knight will roll back the clock and take place in the era that first defined the shapeshifting alien robots: the 1980s.

“You might even see a VW Bug,” Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura tells EW. “You never know.”

“It’s the story of a 17-, 18-year-old girl who, through a series of events, she and Bumblebee find each other, and they make each other whole,” di Bonaventura said. “Bumblebee’s a very loving character. He’s got a lot of heart, so of course the idyllic life of these two is interrupted by the evil Decepticons. And how are they going to be able to deal with the problem without Optimus and without everybody else?”

31st May 2017 - Hailee Steinfeld in Negotiations to Star

Hailee Steinfeld is in negotiations to star in Paramount's Transformers spinoff Bumblebee. Bumblebee is the yellow and black striped Autobot that appears as one of the main characters in the Transformers film series.

Plot details are being kept on the dark side of the moon but it is known that Steinfeld will play a tomboy who also holds a job as a mechanic after school. Christina Hodson (Shut In) wrote the script.

The movie project is the first spinoff in what the studio hopes will be a Transformers Cinematic Universe that will include prequels and offshoots from a line of movies that have generated over $3.7 billion worldwide with the latest one, Transformers: The Last Knight, set to hit theaters June 23. It is slated for a June 8, 2018 release.

11th November 2016 - Christina Hodson to Write Script for Transformers Spinoff

EXCLUSIVE: Paramount Pictures is getting closer to liftoff on Bumblebee, the first spinoff of its billion dollar Transformers franchise, this one based on a popular character in the series. The studio finally has a script it’s sweet on, and will shortly go out to directors. This comes after Paramount and Michael Bay assembled a “writers room” constructed of his scribes who fleshed out the Hasbro universe. A late addition to that program, Christina Hodson, is the scribe who cracked the spinoff and turned in a script that will make it possible for Paramount to mount the film for 2018. Hodson was one of three female writers (Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet were the others) who joined a group of male scribes in the writers room in summer 2015, as they set out to hatch ideas to expand the mythology of the universe. The next sequel, Transformers 5, is directed by Michael Bay and scripted by Ken Nolan and Iron Man scribes Art Marcum & Matt Holloway. It hits theaters June 23, 2017, while Bumblebee has been dated for June 8, 2018.
