Fresh off the Boat - This isn't Us - Review: Jessica's biggest nightmare

And while I loved last week's episode, the season finale of Fresh off the Boat didn't hit all the right notes with me. The episode written by Matt Kuhn and directed by Bill Purple had a very slow start but finished quite strong leaving us on a hiatus long cliffhanger.

The episode's main focus was Jessica's inability to adapt to living on a high note. And while I usually enjoy Jessica being a cheap bastard, I thought we were passed that. It felt like a lot of fuzz about nothing, the definition of forced. Yes it was a couping mechanism but it was a poor one. The writers could've gone a bit out of character to make it a bit more interesting still they walked down th safe road.

I did enjoy the scenes involving Marvin and Honey. Louis and Marvin's bromance is getting better with each episode and I just can't get enough of it. Certainly a major highlight of this luckluster season finale.

Louis eventually encouraging Jessica to let go was a sweet moment and I do appreciate that we get this type of scenes. Jessica playing the haunted card so they would get their deposit back was hilarious. It was sweet seeing Ian Gomez again, Jessica really enjoys putting a spin on him.

Eddie and his crew's story felt quite underwhelming this week. I don't know why though it was an okay story but did feel a tidbit rushed. I loved the puns involving Trent's sister though, Brian is such a sleezy boy it was simply hilarious. Eddie getting cut off did feel a bit harsh but I look forward to see how they will resolve this story next season when the crew goes to High School.

The story about Evan's blazer was surprisingly the funniest out of the bunch. Ian Chen once again stole the show with his slightly frightenin' but hilarious performance. His scenes with the headmaster just made me smile. I enjoyed how he laughed of Eddie and how he stood up to the headmaster when he was insulting Emery.

The revelation that Emery was wrong about the child labor was a fantastic twisted and gave Evan even more space to shine. Don't mess with Evan Huang's education guys it won't end well for you guys.

The finale scene reminiscing the very first scene with the family traveling to their original house was really sweet and beautiful. I certainly didn't expect the shocker with their home being rented out. Jessica's biggest nightmare eventually came true and the Huangs are entering summer homeless.
