Part one of Fresh off the Boat's season 3 finale was a strong outing featuring another great Evan-Jessica story and put Louis under duress. The episode was written by Sanjay Shah and directed by Claire Scanlon.
The way the Dean drove her in and charmed inside Jessica's mind was simply amazing. Jesica melting by all that Ivy league school talk was adorable. Her trying to bargain the tuition down was so funny just to realize she and Evan need to qualify for private school.
Jessica's campaign to get Evan into the private school was funny and the rejection hurt even me. Jessica blaming Dierdra for not signing the recommendation letter strong enough was another hilarious moment. I felt sad for Jessica when Deirdre put her and her whole family down.
Side note: Ian Chen nailed the interview! He was so hilarious and on point with his performance. Also, him agreeing to go back to public school just so Jessica wouldn't be sad was completely adorable. Evan is a great son.
I loved Louis' story. Randal Park under pressure is really a joy to watch. He is truly getting into the role and gives Louis so many layers. This week once again Randall Park gave Louis just the perfect amount of tension and panic to create a hilarious story. Also using Michael Bolton in this one was great choice. Also, it was nice to see the story come together with Jessica and Evan's story and that mansion looks perfect for the Huang's.
Emery and Eddie's story felt redundant and unnecessary. As previously said I do enjoy Eddie's friends but they had better moments in previous outings. I did love how they've set up the mini-cliffhanger at the end of the episode was a neatly executed aka Eddie's face was hilarious.
