Fresh off the Boat - Pie vs Cake - Review: Mother of all Debates

Pie vs Cake was written by Jeff Chlebus and Daniel Carter and directed by Nisha Ganatra. Another week another marvelous episode of Fresh off the Boat. The show is really peaking this season and besides a couple of episodes, this season is top notch. So let's dig into the latest shenanigans of our favorite 90`s family, the Huangs.

Over the course of their 3 season run Fresh off the boat delivered many hilarious stories involving Jessica and her sons, but the ones involving Evan and Jessica are my favorites. So the debate storyline brought out the best out of my 2 favorite characters and brought out a bunch of amazing laughs.

Evan is the spitting image of his mother and him being as good as her in debating wasn't a surprise at all. Still, the way the writers made Evan take down Jessica at Cattleman's Ranch was slightly cruel but still truly hilarious. Jessica's self-doubt made her challenge herself and try to return a phone she didn't even purchase in the store. This obviously backfired as Evan stepped in and took over the debate and scored a win for team Evan.

Seeing Jessica broken down and with all that negativity was truly funny. Praising Constance Wu's comedic abilities at this point is just redundant but I can't help myself. She is such a comedic treasure but also finds the space to deliver a truly emotional performance. With a little help from Louis, Jessica found her drive and decided to take down Evan with a debate like never seen before. But the reveal that Evan wasn't accepted because of his age brought up the fighter back and Jessica shone in front of the whole debate team and secured her son a spot on the debate team.

Side Note: It was very nice to see Buffy alumni, Thomas Lenk as Roger, the sales manager in the store the Huangs are visiting. He was quite funny during his scenes with Jessica and Evan.

Meanwhile, Eddie and Emery worked on a comic book project. It was a decent side story, giving both Emery and Eddie space and time to shine. Emery goody two shoes heroes made me cringe and laugh at the same time. So random and weird but yet very funny. Eddie raising to the occasion and apologizing to Emery in his way
was really sweet and makes me appreciate their scenes a lot more. I'm so pleased with the material the writers are giving the boys, cause it is getting more mature and approachable so they can really carry out the stories.

The episode ended with Stan Lee admiring the fabulous comic book Eddie and Emery created. It was about Persuader and Blazer boy both based on Jessica and Evan. I loved the comic book scene. It was very funny and very well done, I truly enjoyed it.
