Empire’s third season is coming to an end and the show needed a turning point in order to give a boost to various storylines. Love Is a Smoke manage to do that. Let’s go into detail.
The episode is focused on the aftermath of Angelo’s election. Cookie is waiting for an official proposal and she is a bit confused about how to react. She believes in her feeling for Angelo, but she doesn’t want to commit. Giuliana tries to make her jealous and there is a new ambiguous figure in town: Eva Longoria begins his guest spot as the powerful Las Vegas’ investor. I was eager to watch Longoria as a villain. She is such a talented actress and I was curious to see her starring in a dramatic role. I have to admit it: I am intrigued. At the same time, I am a bit bored by Giuliana, her character is just a bit stereotyped.
Anika is still working for Lucious and she is trying to convince Tariq to help her with her troubled situation. The latter doesn’t know that he is spied and recorded. The poor Boo Boo Kitty can’t catch a break, she always has to get something done.
The main interesting part of the episode was the ending: Angelo and Cookie break up, as we all expected, but the consequences of the event are terrible. He admits on national television all the illegal actions he has done in order to protect his ex-partner. We all know that Cookie and Lucious can’t stay together, and also they can’t stay apart, so I was more than happy that they finally ended this tiresome relationship.
All in all, Empire is still lacking strength story wise, but at least it is delivering entertaining episodes as Love Is a Smoke. With just four episodes left, I just ask for more. More plot twists, more drama, more Cookie. Let’s hope for a great conclusion.
And you? What do you think of Love Is a Smoke?
