Code Black and Elementary - New seasons to be 13 episodes
17 May 2017
Code Black ElementaryCBS announced Wednesday that the upcoming seasons of Code Black and Elementary will both consist of 13 episodes.
The two shows have been held for midseason for 2017-18 and CBS Corporation CEO Leslie Moonves confirmed during the network's annual Upfront press breakfast that the shows would have a shorter run.
"One of the changes in having so much midseason is that, look, repeats aren't working as well as they used to," he said. "It's good to have originals all the way through, so if you take a Code Black, it was on Wednesday night and doing decently on Wednesday night. There's no reason that Criminal Minds couldn't come off for a short period of time and you put in Code Black and you continue with originals all the way through.
"Same with Elementary on a Sunday night or a Thursday night, things like that. So you have a lot more leeway to do things."
Code Black, heading into its third season, is no stranger to a shorter run having consisted of 18 episodes in its freshman season and 16 in its sophomore run, which concluded in February.
Elementary, however, has had full 24-episode orders in all of its five seasons. The Sherlock Holmes-based drama airs its season finale Sunday, May 21st.
