“Is she, or is she not, a danger to herself?”

So much for peace! After finally finding themselves on the same page regarding Robin, Connor and Daniel once again find themselves at odds, and things get explosive. Daniel, against everyone’s wishes, had Robin committed against her will. Connor, meanwhile, wholeheartedly believes being confined is what will drive Robin crazy—cue the battle to release Robin.

After consulting with Sarah, Connor is hellbent on getting Robin out of the hospital. Daniel, of course, is vehemently against it. Everything hinges on Robin being an immediate danger to herself, which Sarah concludes is not the case—at the moment. A panel is assembled to determine Robin’s involuntary hold, and it results in her release and a rather explosive, public confrontation between Connor and Daniel.

Though I agree with Connor that Robin shouldn’t have been committed against her will, Robin needed to be committed. Releasing her is a mistake, and Daniel raises another valid point with Connor—not only is he a surgeon who works nearly forty-hour weeks, but he’s not equipped to handle what Robin might need. Daniel is proved right at the end of the hour when Connor wakes to find Robin screaming and waving a broom on a chair in the living room. It’s safe to say she’s having a psychotic break, and she barricades herself on the balcony with Connor helplessly trapped inside. What?! She’s going to live, right?!

“This is everything I’ve been living for.”

Ethan and April care for Gary Foster, a very sick man who was hit by a car. Gary is unwilling to have the brain surgery to fix his brain, because he has ALS and it’s progressing rapidly. He takes matters into his own hands—go out as an organ donor and save lives in the process. It’s quite the case for April and Ethan—two people who have proved time and time again that letting go isn’t an ability they possess. In many instances, it’s an admirable trait. But in this instance, it invades a bit on Gary’s rights. It showed incredible strength and growth from both Ethan and April when they were eventually able to let Gary go, which was likely in large part due to the fact the Gary’s organs can save so many lives.

But wait, there’s more! The subtle sexual tension between these two the past few weeks? Not all in my head. On the rooftop near the end of the hour, Ethan and April almost kiss. April walks away before anything happens, but let’s be real—enough has happened that these two will have some things to address in the near future. I’m all for this relationship!

“It must be fate.”

It’s match day! Only one local student will get a Chicago Med placement, which means we’ll likely get either a lot more Clark or a lot more Noah next season. Look, Noah really has grown on me quite a bit these last few weeks, but if I have to choose between the two, I choose Clark. I’ve loved him for years! But of course, I don’t always get what I want (if I did, Timeless would have been renewed).

When Maggie congratulates Clark on getting his placement of choice, I immediately knew it wasn’t Chicago Med (hence, the vagueness). Dr. Stohl assumes it’s the Med spot, as does everyone else. “Does Natalie know?” asks Maggie. Yeah, he’s outta here. But before he can leave, Keoni pays a visit and has the honor of being Clark’s last patient at Chicago Med. He’s diagnosed with diabetes, and thanks to Sharon, is willing to fight it.

In the end, it’s Noah who gets the Chicago Med spot, which might mean a series regular promotion for him this fall. Clark, meanwhile, will be working in Honolulu which is unacceptable! That is too far away to warrant bi-annual visits! Surprisingly, he leaves without saying goodbye to Natalie, thanks in large part to her constantly being around Will. But perhaps that’s the ending they needed—it’s clear there’s something between Will and Natalie and Clark knows it. I’m more upset about Clark’s departure than I thought I would be. He’s always been a great character—he was one of my favorite recurring guests on Chicago Fire, where I hoped he might find a permanent home. I’m sad to see him leave the One Chicago family. That is all.

“I feel like I needed something new.”

Natalie treats a teenage girl, Allison, who displays strange symptoms. As usual, Will is there to help and the two discover that Allison has herpes. Allison’s remaining symptoms suggest sexual assault, so Jay Halstead is called in for the case. The immediate suspect is the stepfather (was anyone not thinking it was him?), but as usual, it’s not that simple. Jay’s investigation doesn’t raise any flags regarding the stepfather. After Jay, Natalie, and Will discuss, they come to the horrifying conclusion that Allison’s orthodontist might be to blame based on the drugs found in her system and her newly-installed braces. Yikes! How disgusting! Call me naïve, but there are some people in this world we should just naturally be able to trust—doctors (and orthodontists) included. To see that trust broken feels more horrendous than others.

Will invites Natalie to join him, Nina, and Jay at Molly’s, which sounds like a disaster in the making. Natalie makes a stop first…for a haircut! She looks fantastic, and Will is the first to notice. And Nina is the first to notice that Will noticed (“they don’t know we know, they know” flashbacks, anyone?). And that look Will gives her? He’s giving Natalie bedroom eyes while sitting next to Nina! Guys, Natalie’s hair isn’t the only thing changing around here. I’d be willing to bet (and yes, thanks to the promos for the finale) that Will and Nina don’t last the season, and perhaps we see the official start of Natalie and Will. Here’s hoping!
