“This is on you. You did this.”
The season two finale kicks off not too long after the previous episode ends—Robin made it off the balcony, thankfully, and is rushed to Chicago Med. It doesn’t take long for Daniel to blame Connor, and honestly, he’s not entirely wrong. Connor wasn’t equipped to handle what Robin is going through.
Sarah attempts to check every angle of Robin’s symptoms, like any good doctor would. She seems optimistic that Robin’s symptoms are not psychological in nature, but Daniel is a Negative Nancy about it all. I’ve had enough of this Daniel, and so has Sharon. “Where’s the Daniel who leaves no stone unturned when diagnosing a patient? Where’s the Daniel who never gives up? Don’t you think your own daughter deserves that much?” He seems to take Sharon’s words to heart—he joins Sarah in her quest for other possibilities.
Lo and behold, they find one! A tumor, to be exact, is discovered to be the source of Robin’s psychotic episodes. Not only was her surgery a success, but Robin and Daniel patch up their relationship while she’s in recovery. She should be just fine! The same, however, can’t be said for Daniel. A former patient of Daniel’s, Mr. Kellogg, makes another appearance in the waiting room and demands to see Daniel. With Robin in the hospital, Daniel is obviously unavailable, and that doesn’t sit well with Mr. Kellogg. At the end of the hour, Mr. Kellogg voices his frustrations outside the hospital to Daniel, and then shoots him before shooting himself. The season ends before we know Daniel’s fate, though I’d like to think he’ll be just fine.
“I’m not sure we will enjoy working together.”
There’s a new cardio fellow at Chicago Med! Dr. Ava Becker joins the crew and is quick to get on Connor’s bad side. Ava is prickly and straightforward, and Connor is not in the mood. Here’s the deal, though—fool me once (looking at you, Dr. Downey), shame on you. Fool me twice (hey there, Dr. Latham), shame on me. Fool me thrice? I think not. I bet we like Ava before too long.
It seemed a bit out of place with Robin in such a precarious state, but there were sparks between Ava and Connor amidst the dislike. Heck, Ava even says, “I like dangerous men” (referencing Connor). So, where do we go from here? Love triangle? We just got out of one of those, I don’t know that I’m ready for another.
“Time for a change.”
Will and Natalie treat Marwan, a college student and Syrian refuge escorted in by Jay after being hit by a car. When they aren’t treating Marwan, Maggie catches Will staring at Natalie, who can’t get over Natalie’s haircut. He knows a big change like that means something, he just can’t figure out what. Here’s a hint, Will: she likes you. But there’s not much time to dwell on the complications of their non-relationship—Marwan’s symptoms aren’t adding up and he’s only getting worse.
Meanwhile, Marwan’s girlfriend, Christina, arrives at the hospital and later reveals to Natalie some surprising news: she’s pregnant and getting married to Marwan. His parents were already flying in from Germany, and they were going to tell them that night. But all that might not matter if Marwan doesn’t live, and Natalie and Will are forced to gamble on a treatment. They guess he has asthma, and treat him accordingly. Thankfully, his mom confirms he does have asthma, meaning Marwan should recover nicely!
I have a lot of problems with Natalie asking Jay to go to Noah’s graduation party with her (the main reason being Jay is in love with Erin). I’m not the only one—Jay, being the great brother he is, wants to clear it with Will first, who is definitely not okay with it. Jay tells Will to get his act together, and that, he does. The long-awaited Will/Nina breakup finally hits, and Nina is furious. Will, to his credit, fully admits his feelings for Natalie. Here’s the problem, though—everyone, including Nina, knew Will had feelings for Natalie. So why did this relationship last so long? Will should have ended things long ago. But, the past is the past, and presently, Will and Natalie dance together at Noah’s party. Methinks this is finally the start of their overdue relationship.
“Love can hurt, right? But loneliness, that will kill you.”
After the almost kiss in the last episode, Ethan and April agree to pretend the whole thing never happened. Naturally, that agreement means the not-kiss is going to get a lot of attention from these two this hour. They briefly treat a man who ends up in Connor’s OR, and later turn their attention toward a college girl in a monkey suit. Throughout the case, Ethan and April are about as subtle with their feelings as a flashing neon sign. Noah picks up on the tension and in a very Noah-like way, encourages April to go for it. Between the girl in the monkey suit and Noah’s words of encouragement, April seems to change her mind about Ethan. She suggests he rethink his decision to not attend Noah’s graduation party, and like the wise man that he is, he attends. Further proving his wisdom, Ethan walks right up to April and plants one on her. Yes! I am so on board with this relationship.
Other tidbits…
It was a small storyline, but enjoyable nonetheless—Dr. Stohl is pranked by the graduating med students with jokes like mandatory penis examinations, gluing his mug on the ceiling, and a plethora of balloons in his office. Love it. As annoying as Dr. Stohl is, he’s also hilariously entertaining. I hope we see more of him next season.
Love seems to be in the air at Chicago Med. Sarah and Noah have had sparks recently, but things felt different this hour. I don’t think these two are ultimately right for each other (I think Sarah will quickly grow tired of Noah’s immaturity), but darn it if they aren’t adorable.
