This week on The Originals, Klaus and Elijah threw a party to lure out the disciples of the Hollow. Hayley uncovered more about what happened to her parents. Elijah very publicly kills Dominique, who is later resurrected by the Hollow. Dominique managed to steal the Tunde blade which contains a bone that can be used to resurrect the Hollow. Josh teams up with Sofya to free Marcel.
Most interesting character development: I’ve said it a few times these past few weeks but Elijah is headed down a dark path. He seems bent on taking over Klaus’ darkness so Klaus can be there for his daughter that I’m not sure he sees where he’s headed. But this has been building for a lot longer than just this season. On The Vampire Diaries, he was always referred to as the moral brother and he relatively maintained that in season one of this show. But after Esther messed with his head in early season two, he started to head in a different direction. He’s slowly been getting darker and darker, to the point where he was okay with sacrificing Davina and Marcel last season. And now that he wants to protect Klaus from that darkness he seems to be escalating.
Most awkward interaction: Clearly Vincent is not the forgiving type. Which is understandable. Still, I’d always hoped to see a friendship grow between him and Freya. They could learn so much from each other and if they worked together they’d be pretty much unstoppable. I did feel bad for her because I think she’s lonely. She the only witch and only mortal member of a family full of vampires. And while I’m all for her developing relationship with Keelin, I think at this point she needs a friend more than she needs a love interest.
MVP: This might be weird but my favorite character this week is the one that probably got the least screen time. But it’s not about the amount of screen time, it’s about what you do with it. And Josh puts a smile on my face every time I see him. It’s a miracle that he has made it to season four when I kept expecting the writers to kill him off when this show started. But I’m glad he has and I want him to make it to the end of the show, however much longer that may be.
Missing in action: Both Marcel and Hope were noticeably absent this week. But we all know they’ll be back in the next episode. Rebekah and Kol, on the other hand, don’t have a return date yet. Since this show’s future is still unknown, I want to get as many Mikaelson family moments as I can get my hands on. So I need those two to return asap. Speaking of uncertain futures, we are headed into May aka cancellation month so let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope we at least get one more season so everything can be nicely wrapped up. We deserve a final season just as much as The Vampire Diaries did.
Best quotes: Josh: “One plus one equals captured.”
Klaus: “It’s such a shame these lovely linens will soon be read with blood.”
Josh: “I was going to look into that with the help of a certain homicidal supermodel, not that she gave me much choice.”
That’s it for this week. Check in again next week for an all-new review and let me know in the comments what you thought of this week’s episode.
