Major Crimes - Intersection - Review

After a couple of weeks of victims that left me thinking they earned their murder, we have a victim that is an innocent.

The victim, William Sax, had, as a teenager, accidentally killed another kid. The police ruled the accident the fault of the 18-year old kid, Kevin Harris, who ran out into the street after a Frisbee; no charges were ever filed.

Will didn’t walk away from the situation like the stereotypical privileged kid who felt himself untouchable. He never drove another car, helped at risk kids, fed the homeless and determined to use his degree in environmental law to make the world a better place.

We got another perspective on Provenza in this episode. (I’m really loving that we’re getting more than just curmudgeonly moments from Provenza right now.)

Provenza was a little shaken by the fact that, in an accidental death, there’s no reason for his death. When he comes to believe that the kid was lying in the essay that nailed Will a coveted internship, Provenza decides perhaps he should retire.

I think this is the first time that anyone other than Raydor had the epiphany that breaks the case. While Provenza grouses to Patrice about Will’s perceived lies and the idea of being made a captain, he realizes Will Sax changed his name.

This piece of information leads to the realization that Kevin Harris’ mother killed Will out of revenge. Flynn got this one right when he said that they were looking at a hit and not a hit and run.

Even though it felt like the case was heavier this week, we still got to spend some time with the characters. We got the nice scene between Louie and Patrice as Louie considered retirement and a fun dinner scene in which Andy tried to convince everyone that his healthy cake was good.

Other highlights:

• The expression on Sharon's face when she took a bite of Andy's cake.
• Raydor is worried about Stroh. It looks like Stroh is definitely going to be the subject of the final few episodes of the season.
• Raydor had her interview for the Assistant Chief position
• Provenza was promoted to Captain!

I really liked this episode. It’s at the top of my list of the episodes in this half of the season. I think what I liked most was getting to spend time with the characters off duty. I loved the dinner scene and seeing Rusty come to Louie’s aid. Then we got that sweet little scene with Patrice and Louie. Neither scene felt rushed. It felt like I got to spend some quality time with these characters this week.
