The Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad world are starting to overlap. We saw the start of that last season with the Salamancas and now in season 3 we're getting some more Breaking Bad faces back. "Witness" brought us some more favorites, Francesca, our favorite assistant, although Francesca seems to be a lot happier now, so I wonder what happen to her in the years leading up to the Breaking Bad. Then we have Victor, we all remember him as the dude that got his throat slashed with a box cutter by Gus Fring. And of course Hollywood's worst kept secret Gus, he's back!
Chuck sets his plan into action by hiring a round a clock Private Investigator to stay with him, in case Jimmy to tries to break in and steal the tape. Chuck wanted a Witness, he was determind to catch Jimmy in the act.
Mike continues his hunt for whomever is behind putting the tracking device in his gas cap. Mike followed a man all night throughout Albuquerque that was doing pick ups. What was the man picking up? Money, drugs? Who knows, but he ended up at a fast food place called Los Pollos Hermanos. Of course we all know that Los Pollos is the headquarters for Gus Frings drug operation.
Jimmy and Kim hired Francesca as their assistant after the first interview, even though Kim had reservation about the fact, but Jimmy needed the help. When the phones started to ring, Jimmy told Francesca to be "folksy" old people like folksy. Jimmy also told her it's always a good idea to mention Cracker Barrel. Which is a call back to the first season when Jimmy takes Kim to an office space that he wanted to rent. When Jimmy showed Kim the conference room, she told him to make it look like the front of a Cracker Barrel. That's also the moment we learned that Jimmy was in love with Kim. That was a great scene, Francesca handle herself very well for her first day of work. One of her first calls was Mike, Mike however had no interested in talking about Cracker Barrel.
Mike had a job for Jimmy, all Jimmy need to do was order a meal at Los Pollos Hermanos, find a table where he could see the whole place and people watch. But we learned that Jimmy is very bad at being nonchalant. That's most likely why Gus's guy didn't do his drop off, he know he was being watched. The best part was when Jimmy was half way in the trash can, digging through it, trying to find something for Mike. Then he hears a voice, Gus's voice, so he quickly takes off his watch and pulls out, that's how Gus was introduced. Gus offers to clean Jimmy's watch very politely but Jimmy declined and they went their separate ways. When Jimmy told Mike that he saw nothing, Mike told Jimmy to leave but Mike stayed.
Let's get back to Chuck's plan for Jimmy. Remember last week when Chuck "accidentally" let the tape roll for Erie to hear, and told him not to say anything to anyone. The guilt has been building up and Erie decided to tell Kim about the tape instead of Jimmy. Kim freaked out and right away went back inside to talk to Jimmy. She told Jimmy to give her a dollar so she would be his lawyer. She asked Jimmy what happened that day, Jimmy told her the truth. She wasn't that mad, but she told him there was a tape, a tape of Jimmy's confession of the crime. Jimmy was crushed, not because he could be facing charges but because Chuck betrayed him. But Kim reassured him that they will figure it out. Kim did some research and found out that Chuck has no standing in or outside of court. She told Jimmy that all they can do is wait for Chuck to make the first move. While Kim was talking to him, Jimmy was taking the tape off the wall. He was rolling it, like Chuck showed him last week. But after Kim left, Jimmy reached the end of the M of the logo, and the hurt turned into hate. Jimmy pulls the tape off and revealed the crooked part of the paint. It also revealed the first sign of Saul Goodman in Jimmy.
When Jimmy got to Chuck's house he did something that we thought he would never do. Jimmy smashed down Chuck's door, broke into his desk while screaming at Chuck. Jimmy took the tape and broke it right in Chuck's face, then Jimmy threaten to burn down Chuck's house. Lucky Howard was standing behind the wall and told Jimmy to stop! Because the way he was going, Jimmy would have gotten to that point.
It's check-mate for Mike, his tracking device brought him down a long lonely road in the middle of nowhere. Where Mike finds a phone on top of a gas cap. Mike walks up to the phone and it rings...
