Speechless - D-I--DING - Review: Superstore Edition

Throughout its freshman run, Speechless had some good, some great and some amazing episodes. D-I--DING as you all assume falls into the third category. AMAZING! I laughed so hard while watching it. This masterpiece was written by Matt Roller and directed by Cherie Nowlan.

My absolute favorite part of this episode was Kenneth hiding in the manager's office. Cedric was outstanding and truly hilarious with all his confusion and trying to manipulate the DiMeos out of the store. He also did a great job in bringing the whole family together at the end.

JJ fighting for his rights felt so empowering. The writers recently have so much in Micah and their writing that they find themselves confident enough to let him lead and develop a story on his own. I certainly hope there aren't people who mistreat kids in wheelchairs but that dude deserved everything JJ put him through. It was obvious that Micah had so much fun while doing the story. I loved his speech and it was a great way to end the ugly behavior. I liked the inclusion of Diane (Joy Regullano) as Jay's temporary aide, she really fit the whole vibe and I would love to see more of her further down the line.

The episode's major focus was Maya and Ray's major dispute about a ding on the car they've parked next too. Ray left a note despite Maya pretty much swearing she didn't ding. The back and forth between Maya and Ray was priceless. Maya scheming against Ray with the car owner, Heather (played by the fabulous Leslie Grossman) was hilarious. Ray not backing down even when Maya was about to get "arrested" and sued for 60K was pure gold. Mason Cook was extraordinary and Minnie Driver and Leslie Grossman were just up there with him.

But the story did peak when Ray caused an accident and causing huge damage to the store. The panic on Ray's face was priceless and Maya teasing him was just another cherry on the top. Maya's shock when it was revealed that all the family members share Ray's opinion was hilarious, Minnie was killing it throughout the outing. Kenneth eventually revealed that Maya wasn't a dinger and Ray conceded and said he was sorry.

Another highlight in this episode was the Dylan-Jimmy story. Jimmy not wanting to disappoint his daughter anymore was handled with such easiness, creating many funny and memorable moments. The chase in the back of the store was hilarious and the writers exploited their relationship to a maximum. Dylan being underwhelmed by the taste of the Banjo Cola was another cherry on top of a fantastic episode.

The family made peace and exited the store without paying a dime, classic DiMeos. Speechless is really pushing all possible boundaries and exploring and defying different stereotypes. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do. Speechless is going on a little break and returns in early April, in the meantime, stop by the comment section and let me know what did you think of D-I--DING.
